I don't think it would have mattered. There was no options for folks to talk.  It would have been better to have support at the previous meeting. I spoke to the PSA rep and offered support if needed for future meetings.

Isn't there a range at "ATC" or "ATK" in the Charleston area?  Having just spent 2 weeks in the area in the last month and half on business, with a good bit being in North Charleston, there are some rough parts of town that butt up to Mt. Pleasant that need some serious rehabilitation.

Good luck with getting the range approved, numbers sitting in the audience can go a long way to help getting that kind of stuff passed.

yes i know of the company your referring to but idk if they have a range or not.  that being said, scuttlebutt was they wanted PSA to buy them out, but again scuttlebutt is scuttlebutt.  I dont get why a city wouldnt want a safe range for this... beats being done in joebob's back yard.

Y'all are talking about ATP, he's in the Summerville area. Mt Pleasant is like a whole other country compared to Summerville.

This isn't just about a range, this is about an agenda. Most of the people at the first meeting that spoke in opposition of the range were northeastern transplants (not native South Carolinians) that gun owners in the northeast were glad to get rid of. Couple that with the libs at the local ABC affiliate, and their "left sided" sob-story of a spin they put on it and it's clear to see the writing on the wall.

Truth be told, most of the opposition at the first meeting thought they were stopping PSA from opening a store, but since the zoning allows for a retail establishment, they can't stop the store. The range, obviously, is another story. Time will tell...

Bad new for the libs.  Mt P can't oppose the retail operation If it is zoned retail.

I hope they can add it later after they are paying taxes and there are no issues

Probably a more likely scenario.

That was the problem, it wasn't really publicized and therefore no chance to rally support.

Just got this email. I'm going to try my best to make it to this meeting. Their really needs to be an indoor range somewhere in Mt. Pleasant. Spread the word. If I'm reading this correctly then this one is at 6:00.
Please note: If you have a concern you MUST be present Tuesday, 5/13/2014 at 6 pm for your VOICE to be heard. The board will not make a recommendation for or against. Again, this is from Charleston National Community Association email Bulletin.

Please note: If you have a concern you MUST be present Tuesday, 5/13/2014 at 6 pm for your VOICE to be heard. The board will not make a recommendation for or against.

On May 5th , the Planning & Development Committee of Council recommended denial of the request to add an indoor shooting range as a conditional use on the property.

The request will still be on the May 13 Town Council agenda for first reading.

If first reading is not approved, the request is denied and the same request for the property cannot be submitted for at least one year (without Council approving a waiver of that timeframe).

If first reading is approved, final reading will be scheduled for the June 10 Town Council meeting.

Funny thing is that alot of former Citadel prof's (and probably even a few current ones) live in Mt. P.  There are also several retired SF guys down there I know, including one that was a Lt. Col in an Army Tier 1 unit.  They all carry, and would love to see a local range.

Yesterday

Charleston National resident Bill Farley, a member of the National Rifle Association, said the issue is proximity to a residential area.

"I am very much in favor of a shooting range in East Cooper," Farley said. "But not in this location."

Resident Steve Wakeford called it "ill thought out placement."

Does anyone know Bill?

thanks for the article.

i do not know bill.

I think the statement about noise and traffic is rediculous but whatever.

At the initial meeting someone was worried about kids buying guns and knives on the way to school.

Worried about traffic?  I guess they would rather have abandoned bussinesses  No bussiness, no traffic.

yea cause you know those are logical arguments... folks sell guns to kids under 18 all the time at PSA here and everywhere else they have a store (that was sarcasm)

yea if they want vacant buildings so be it.
