Yes, I know PTAC has been beaten to death here...and I looked around but couldn't find anything definitive answering my question.
I see the PTAC 1:7 uppers are "expected to group within the milspec", I presume <4 MOA. Has anybody thrown a scope on a PTAC 1:7 upper and tested their 100yd accuracy with 68-77gr bullets, either factory ammo or reloads? |

Send it back. They are advertised to meet Mil-Spec! Quoted:

I did with a vortex strikefire with a 2 x zoom but I wouldnt trust my results since it was my first time shooting but I think i would say 5-6 MOA for a first time shooter. Send it back. They are advertised to meet Mil-Spec! Key words.... first time shooter. No offense but he may not be able to shoot with a match rifle. He may not even have it zeroed properly. |

To Tvdang7:
First time beginner shooter doing 5 MOA. I can see that. Sounds like a marksmanship fundamentals issue. Not a big deal. Clean, research marksmanship fundamentals, dry-fire practice, and try it again. Also, check and make sure your sight is mounted tightly and didn't shake loose. I am not sure I'd blame the rifle just yet. |

I had one of the bad ones that was unshootable. I've shot the replacement for a few hundred rounds with zero malfunctions and good accuracy. I haven't scoped it and shot for tiny groups with carefully-made handloads, but I have properly zeroed it and shot it. It shoots with practical accuracy that you would expect from any AR. In my experience, as a general rule, the difference between a lower-cost AR, and a quality rackgrade gun like a Colt, is not accuracy, but in reliability and reduced chance of breakage and failure.
My replacement PTAC is accurate and runs fine, but I wouldn't use it on duty or on deployment. |
