Best suggestion i can give

Add each one to "compare"... .all four of em

then click 'compare' and do just that....  you can even print the  compare page...

check off each feature one by one until you find the differences.....

the first one is their premium ETCHED LOGO bolt carrier group..

Shot peened 158 carpenter mpi hpt chrome lined carrier.

the second one is not premium, its not etched, it s bolt is not MPI hpt or shot peened. Although the carrier is chrome lined, and M16 style not civi style.

the third one is identical to the first, minus the ETCHED LOGO.  (no logo of PSA's on its carrier)

the fourth one is the same as the second, with the exception that the bolt is HPT/MPI and is shot peened.  this bolts extractor also has an o ring insert.

hope that helps and if i missed anything yall feel free to chip in.

Nah  you nailed it. I was too lazy, especially when what you said is already in descriptions.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I did put all four BCGs in the compare feature and found that the 1st, 3rd and 4th BCGs have identical "short descriptions", as in:

- Milspec Carpenter No. 158® steel bolt
- Shot Peened Bolt
- High pressure tested (HPT)
- Mag particle inspected (MPI)
- Chrome Lined Carrier (AUTO)
- Chrome Lined Gas Key
- Gas Key Hardened to USGI Specifications
- Gas Key Grade 8 Hardened Fasteners
- Gas Key Staked Per Mil-Spec
- Tool Steel Extractor
- Extractor Spring
- Extractor O-ring Insert

So I was curious what makes the 1st and 3rd BCGs "Premium"?

The difference Between 1,3, and 4 is mostly in the markings I believe

The 3rd one, though lacking the logo, should still have a nice HPT/MPI engraved into the bolt itself.

The last one is the same but just stamped MP.

Great, thanks for the reply.

To clarify,

The MPI/HPT mark is for Mag Particle Inspected and High Pressure Tested, correct?

The MP mark is for Mag Particle Inspected and High Pressure Tested, correct?

The M mark is for Mag Particle Inspected only, correct?

That's a long ways from a complete and thorough answer however.

I figured #3 and #4 were the same unit, both have a regular price of $149.99 anyway, so I thought the 4th SKU was generated for the sale price as that is all I can tell is different (the price). But I see when compared that the fourth one does state... 'marked "MP" for High pressure tested and Mag Particle Inspected.'.

I just bought two of those at $79.99 a piece!!

If I'm reading that right, #1, 3, and 4 are identical in quality and testing, but differ only in the markings on the carrier and bolt?

#2 is obviously the "budget" option, but it appears to only lacks an HPT'd bolt and the extractor O-ring.  The full description says it is shot peened and MPI'd, just like the others, yet it is the same price as the PTAC BCG, which doesn't say anything about any bolt testing.

Did I miss anything?

I just received two PTAC bcg's from PSA last night.  Both bolts are 'MP' marked.  Not sure if that's standard for PTAC bgc's or if YMMV.

I don't think that one is even listed any more.  But a few months ago I asked about bolts and IIRC PSA said it wasn't marked.  A search can find it.

Interesting.  The PTAC BCG that came with my Black Friday upper had no markings on the bolt.  Maybe it's luck of the draw.

I just looked at the 35099 BCG I received in the upper deal I bought from PSA last fall. It too has "MP" marked on the bolt.

If you recall, this is some information and pricing on SKU #35099:

Title: 5.56mm Full-Auto Profile Bolt Carrier Group

Regular Price: $149.99
Special Price: $129.99

At the time, I called PSA and asked about this BCG, the phone rep told me it's batch Mag Particle Inspected.

So apparently with PSA sourced bolts, they can be marked "MP" and this can mean batch Mag Particle Inspected. That is unless someone made a mistake and sent the wrong bolt? Don't know? It came in unmarked packaging.

Question: SKU 46284 - 5.56 HPT/MPI M-16 Bolt Carrier Group is "marked "MP" for High pressure tested and Mag Particle Inspected". Does this mean individual Mag Particle Inspected or batch Mag Particle Inspected? AND is it individual High Pressure Tested OR batch High Pressure Tested?

The premium BCG with etched logo PSA sent me last month is the nicest I have ever seen. A thing a beauty.

The premium BCG I recently received without logo, was not so nice...

personally id try to buy all etched if i could.

sadly there are too many variations weve seen in the past from PSA.  no telling what is what. after they are removed from the site.
