I just received my lower receiver, oh and thanks so much for the fast delivery its a refreshing change. Well I wish to turn this into a pistol build and have looked at this Pistol Kit.
I have a few questions, and to anyone that used this kit. Does this have everything, including the Castle Nut? Or do I need to get this separate? Also I'm not sure I like the choices of grips, could I change it out to the Ergo sure grip? Like that rubber feel to my grips. Also how long is the buffer tube? I'm leaning toward a 10.5" barrel and would like to keep OAL smaller than 26" if possible. Also if there are any suggestions on what to add before I order would be appreciated. See after ordering it would suck to pay shipping on small items like a Castle Nut, or other things that might be helpful. This would be my first DIY build. |

Er, why would you need a castle nut on a pistol build? |

I thought they all screwed on, and the castle nut locked it in place. I'm sorry if it seems I'm stupid, I just never put any lower together. I have one complete AR, one complete Lower rifle AR, and this stripped lower which I wish to do on my own. I figure you need 3 to be in the club, I'm in! |

The Spikes has a rear plate that covers the stock detent (the oval piece w/ the round hole), & uses the castle nut to lock it down: http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/lower-kit-spikes-pistol-buffer-assembly-kit-p-69.html The plate is cosmetic, so PSA doesn't include it, thus not needing a castle nut: http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/lower-parts/build-kits/psa-pistol-lower-build-kit.html The detent is there on the lower to keep the rifle stock from rotating when attached. Gig 'em, backbencher |

Well I found a mod to eliminate the rear plate. Mod
Thought I would share that in case anyone was interested. I think the castle nut was for keeping the stock from rotating. Either way it maybe usefull or not I'm not sure here. Think they would change grips in the kit for me? |

I have the PSA pistol lower kit in use.
The buffer tube in the kit is from RRA and does not require a castle nut. The Magpul ASAP end plate has a removeable lock tab which would fit in the slot of a regular CAR buffer tube. You don't need the tab with the RRA pistol tube. I wanted to use a QD type sling connection end plate and went with the Noveske. The Noveske endplate is one piece and it will not fit over the threads of the RRA pistol tube without grinding the tab down. One I did this it fit perfectly and the RRA tube screwed in tightly keeps the endplate in place. The QD port fits into the recess in the back of the lower receiver preventing any plate rotation or movement. The "mod" you refer to for eleminating the endplate is something I do to all my lowers. you can buy a 4-40 tap and 1/8 inch long 440 set screws from Ace Hardware for cheap. The tap was $3 and the set screws like 17 cents apiece. I dont' think this mod was intended to eliminate the endplate so much as to keep the spring and detent in place should you remove the buffer tube assy. |
