[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Colt Ambidextrous Safety (Page 1 of 2)
Posted: 12/8/2016 8:09:48 PM EDT
| I'm in need of a Colt factory ambidextrous safety. I've been stalking the EE and searching some of the on-line vendors without luck. Anyone know of a source? |
|
They seem to be very hard to find lately but I'm working on putting one together using an ambi selector assembly from PSA and a short Colt right side lever from Brownells. Both the PSA assembly and the Colt seem to be made by LW Schneider from what I've found, with the S marking on the parts. I'll try and get some pics up later today or tomorrow. I'm not sure if the original Colt assembly is reversible like their newer standard selectors, but if you need that option the PSA selector won't work as it's not reversible.
The tab on the Colt lever (shown by the arrow in this picture borrowed from Specialized Armament) is a little bit wider on one side so it won't fit into the slot of the barrel of the PSA selector without modification. Either the tab will need to be filed down or I will need to open up the slot on the selector a little bit. I haven't yet decided on which way to do it.

Now that we know there is a demand for these we will order and stock them from Colt for you guys! I think you'd sell a few. They're snapped up immediately when they show up in the EE and the WTB section regularly has posts from people looking for them. |

They are available right now at a favorite Colt's on-line dealer. Don't know if I can say whom. Why can't you say? I don't think it would break any forum rules. I'm really in need of one to complete a project. Please share, as everywhere I have looked they are out of stock... |

Just got an in stock notification for these at Brownell's. Brownell's does not sell the complete assembly as a package. I went through this saga in February and posted about it here. The part that just arrived in stock (I got the notification also) is the left hand selector. The complete assembly consists of the left hand selector, the ambi full auto handle (right side piece; the same part is used for both semi and full auto ambi selectors), and the hex head screw that connects them. They currently also have the screw in stock but the ambi handle is now on back-order. COLT - AR15A4 LEFT HAND SELECTOR COLT - AR15A4 AMBI, FULL AUTO, HANDLE COLT - AR15A4 HEX SOCKET HEAD CAP SCREW Total package price is more than the other vendor. |

I just went ahead and cancelled my order with them since they couldn't confirm. This is what it showed as in the confirmation email so I'm wondering if they changed the PN at some point. Google 'Colt SP400831' and take a look for the vendor near the top that's neither Brownell's nor Specialized Armament. I believe that they are now out of stock as they're listed on the page but can't be added to the cart.
Brownell's is also out of the three parts that I listed above, so I'm guessing that either Colt only released a small batch or there are a bunch of lurkers here who bought a bunch.

Will have 100 in the next week or so, join our in stock notification and you'll get an email when they're in. Don't overpay elsewhere

It would really suck to have them all vanish before I can even get to the cart and then they show up for 2-3x the price on GunBroker or something. Had that happen with other parts way too many times; getting tired of it. |

Well, glad I ordered right away and got my two for $55 instead of $74.
Incase anyone prefers ordering from Brownells, I just released both levers into the system that I had on backorder waiting for the screws to come in. So Brownells should have at least two in stock now. |

Well there is a slight delay in shipping. The owner was inspecting the parts when they arrived and noticed Colt apparently did not send the screw or second lever, he called and got it sorted out and Colt is sending us the missing parts. With that said all orders will ship out next week when we receive the missing parts from Colt. SORRY for the mishap but everyone who got orders in will receive them shortly
Nothing "shady" about us increasing the price after we sold nearly 200 a little too cheap to get them into the hands of customers who sent us tons of requests to stock them, even at the increased price we are still the lowest price around on these selectors |

Does this mean I'll be missing a couple parts?

Regarding the change in price, plenty of other companies offer items at an "introductory price" and then raise it to the standard. Even with the increase they are less than the other company that sells them plus they don't charge for shipping. For an item that has this much demand and has historically been hard to find, $37 is still a win IMO. |
