| This is my 1st post and my 1st experience with a Colt 9mm. I’m sorry if I’m at the wrong place on this forum. I walked into my local gun shop. The owner handed me a rifle and said I just bought this 9mm at action. I looked it over good and told him it said 5.56 on the lower. He said, Is that not right? I told him, I thought it would say 9mm If It was a factory 9mm. I took pictures of the gun and started researching it a little, I very quickly learned that the factory Colt 9mm’s online had roll pins holding the block in the mag well. This Colt lower did not, it has a block in it with what appears to be an allen bolt going up from the bottom. At this point I was convinced that it was a 5.56 just made into a 9mm probably as cheaply as possible, but as I started checking out the upper some more the letters on the side of the carry handle and the A-3 above the ejection port matched up to markings I found on Colt uppers oline. I also found the barrel was marked C MP 9mm nato. The gun has a Colt factory mag and the collapsing stock looks the same as the pictures I’ve found online. The serial # starts with LE instead of the TA like the ones online are. It’s a very low 5 digit serial #. I compared the hammer with a picture of several types of hammers and it has a 9mm hammer in it with a stock 9mm bolt. So my question is, did Colt ever send a model like this out from the factory or has this gun been built by an individual? It has me confused since it appears to be all Colt. All the pins and other places on the rifle appear to be un molested and not wrenched on. I like the looks of this gun, but If it’s not the real deal. I hate spend the same money that I could buy a new 9mm for. Thanks for the help in advance. http://<ahttp://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af275/birdsmc/trade9mm018_zpsb5b80ff2.jpg</a>" />http://<ahttp://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af275/birdsmc/trade9mm014_zpsb5a52497.jpg</a>" />http://<ahttp://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af275/birdsmc/AR9mm016_zpsf4fd6440.jpg</a>" /> |

If your post ends up getting moved this is where they will likely move it. http://www.ar15.com/forums/f_3/15_Rimfire_and_Pistol_Calibers.html That is a Colt mag block however, not all of their 9mm had roll pins just so you know. Here is my 6450 ![]() ![]() ![]() |
| Thank you very much USMC88-93 for the info on the mag well and roll pins. I'm new at posting here, I first posted this at the rimfire and pistol section and was advised to copy and paste my question to here and try out the experts here. Since this rifle has a Colt 9mm mag well conversion block and my upper is All Colt. Do you think it's possible that this 9mm may have came from the factory with a 5.56 lower? Thank you for all the help |

It's a nice stick, but unless it's a screaming deal and you can live with the peculiarities, I'd pick up a 6951. Those new flat top 9mm's are sweet. Have you already bought this? My 6450's both have the two piece mag blocks roll pinned in. I know Colt made one piece mag blocks but I've never actually seen one. I don't know if they are marked in some way to identify it as a Colt.
Whatever you do just make sure you buy a 9mm carbine. They're a blast. That's only the beginning. Then there's the $200 for the Form 1 to SBR. Then there's $200 for the Form 4 and who knows how much for the suppressor. |
| I haven't bought the gun yet. The cash price for the gun is $900 and I can have less in it, if I do some trading with him. Thanks for all the info SFguy. All the comments are helping with my decision. The gun shop isn't open again until Tuesday, so I have a little time to get it all figured out. I'm learning a lot from this web site. |

OP I've had 2 AR-6450's and they are a blast to shoot and will bumpfire like a bullet hose. By having that converted LE6920 lower the mag block can be removed to use 5.56 again. JMR. I was kind of thinking the same thing. It has some options. From what I've researched I'd have to change the hammer though. It has a 9mm hammer in it and a stock ramped bolt. The more I read about these guns the more my mind is made up to get it. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think you can put a 5.56 DPMS hammer in this and not have to cut the bolt. So with a 5.56 upper and buffer and buffer spring. Drop the block out and put a 5.56 mag in and I should have another rifle. Like I said, I'm learning more and more about this gun and It looks like it can be modified to run a lot of different ways. I like the idea of something you can set up and fine tune. so when you pick it up you know it'll run perfect. |

You seem to have an older LE6920 lower half just guessing with its low serial number made during the assault weapons ban era and most likely have the large size non mil-spec hammer and trigger pins.
It is a converted 6920 5.56 to a Colt 9mm upper and seems like the owner used the older not pinned mag block, and he probably changed the hammer to a 9mm type and changed the buffer with a 9mm buffer. You could try to get it at the lowest price possible because it is not a factory configuration, if you get it all you need to do if you wish to also have a 5.56 carbine is just get a 5.56 upper half which ever you prefer lightweight 6720, HBAR 6721 or 6920 M4 profile carbine. If you get a 5.56 upper half you need to change your hammer and buffer with 5.56 parts and just remove the 9mm mag block. I have a non Colt brand 9mm carbine (also two 6920 5.56 carbines), that I built the lower half myself and used a complete 9mm upper half on it, they're fun and economical to shoot, also I could shoot mine at indoor ranges that would not allow high power rifle calibers. |

OP, I may be in the minority here, but I say walk away from that deal. New factory 9mm Colts won't cost you much more, and you will have the factory warranty. Who knows what else the previous owner did to that rifle. Very true Icopy. Thanks for the input. |

The first AR6450 that I bought was in 2005 and was large FCG pins with a 9MM specific hammer.
I ended up trading it then later bought another AR6450 in 2009 that had stainless steel mil-spec FCG pins,M16A1 hammer complete with tail and a ramped bolt. I called Colt about the hammer and it was a legal part for it and they put it in because it performs better with a M16 hammer and I agree it did awesome. |
| Good to know JMR. I was back at the gun shop last night. We still didn't make the deal yet. If I could get him down $150 to $200 I would feel much better about the deal. He'll be open again Thursday, hopefully we can get together on a price then. Thanks for the info. |
Looks like I'm the owner of a Colt 5.56 Lower converted to 9mm with a Colt upper. I finally talked the dealer down to where I felt comfortable. Thanks to everyone that helped me identify this rifle. I guess I just needed one person on here to tell me they would pass on it, to convince me that I'd better try and get it. Thanks again for all the help. |

Congrats, now all you have to do is easy, clean, lube and take it out to the range and have some fun with it. Your carbine really looks nice seems to be used very little by the previous owner, except for that grip just my personal preference, Hogue grips are too small for the size of my hands, and I dislike a lot of finger grooves, the standard A2 grips are OK but I prefer flat front straps with grips. Next you should be looking at 6920 complete upper half which will go great with your carbine. Looking at your 9mm carbine reminded me several years ago I was at my machine gun dealer and he handed me a like new condition 10.5" barrel full auto Colt 9mm submachine gun that he was trying to sell to me. I was looking at that submachine gun very closely, even opened it up and took a good look at the internals and it seems like it was only test fired. It must took me almost an hour looking and drooling at it but finally gave it back to the owner of the store because if I sold my SUV to buy it, my wife would kill me. |

Thanks again for all the help.
