Hi Guys, I'm new to the site but I've been around a little while and into AR platforms for the last 5 years or so. Pretty much I've been thinking about selling the rifle to a friend from work and I would like to find out if this rifle is anything special. I bought it from a FFL friend of mine who purchased it from the PA State Police. As you can tell I changed some things on it but I held on to all the original parts to include with it.
My main question is I believe its a AWB era rifle with non AWB features and does that add any value to it and what do you guys think it would be worth. I am on the fence about selling it though and I may just keep it. Ive sold a few guns in the past just to be wishing I would have kept them a year later. Any info would be appreciated and thanks in advance for the help. -Nick http://<ahttp://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h418/nl128/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC04865_zps53ed8e52.jpg</a>" /> http://<ahttp://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h418/nl128/Mobile%20Uploads/f784f348-71ad-4213-9b4c-11de76a5ecf6_zps2c0d1e53.jpg</a>" /> http://<ahttp://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h418/nl128/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC04882_zps06d8fd1f.jpg</a>" /> http://<ahttp://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h418/nl128/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC04885_zpse7a7eb6d.jpg</a>" /> href=http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h418/nl128/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC04880_zps5033b009.jpg" /> http://<ahttp://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h418/nl128/Mobile%20Uploads/DSC04876_zpsa45a6ec1.jpg</a>" /> |

The subject matter experts will be along shortly to correct me, but just at the more superficial levels I can recognize, the A2 rollmark is desirable by people like me who collect rollmarks, 6520's have been out of production for a couple of years. It also seems that the serial indicates police origins, I don't think consumer guns wouldn't have that specific prefix, the "L" indicates a law enforcement gun. It's good that you kept the A2 upper, and that it had an A2 rifle stock is interesting. It might draw a slightly better price form someone looking for a 6520, rather than selling to to a buddy who may not appreciate the finer points of that Colt with LE origins. We would really need to know how much you were selling it for. That said the 6520s aren't particularly rare, and police turn-ins come up from time to time, but the supply as of late seems somewhat diminished. CDNN was selling them in the 900 dollar range when they had them, based on input from previous posts. ETA: See this thread for more. ETA ETA: Checking your serial number here, it appears to be a pre-ban gun, it will draw a premium in ban states for sure. How dramatic a premium that might be I can't say. |

OP, pop the hand guards off and see if there's a date stamp on the top of the barrel near the front sight. My ban-era LE Competition HBAR (which also has a L prefix s/n, LCH00xxxx) is marked Oct 1997. That should give an approximate date of manufacture, though only Colt could definitively say when it was made. ![]() |

I'm 99% sure that it's not pre-ban. AFAIK, none of the pre-ban rifles had restricted markings on the right side of the magazine well. Sorry, I forgot to include the date stamp in the op. It's stamped 10/97 just like yours lol Does it being a ban era rifle add to anything to it in terms of value or rarity ? I bought a some years back for $900 and thats what my friend from work offered me for it. I just didn't want to sell it then find out later it was some cool rare colt I should've held on to. |

Weird coincidence on the date. If I were made of unlimited funds, I'd buy it just to have a match for mine. Right now, there's probably not any extra value in it being a ban-era "assault weapon." Maybe in the future, if we can even own them then. I'd say that $900 is a good price right now if you want (or need) to sell. There's a similar one on Gunbroker (without the extras) which has been listed multiple times but never met reserve. The highest offer was $850. It's now listed at $999 with no reserve, and no buyers. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=377365367 |

The more I think about it ,even though I don't shoot as much as my other rifles I do like having it around. I think might try to sell my buddy on doing a build for him. He's not a gun guy and there's so many good deals out there now a days I could probably build him something for cheaper he'd be just as happy with. It would be nice to put it back into it's original configuration and have some fun with it. Thanks again for help guys |
