If it is, it's very easy to thread off. Be aware, if it has a black crush washer it was meant to be used one time. They flatten a little when the FH is installed, they are meant to time the gas exhaust ports. You might run into alignment problems if you use it to re-install your A2 later down the road. There are a few better than the A2 as far as flash reduction. The Vortex is pretty good, Surefire makes a good flash suppressor that is a mount for a sound suppressor, they are pricey though. If you don't intend to use it with a sound suppressor, it will work good as a stand alone flash hider. There is some info on Youtube about different flash hiders, they shoot them at night so you can see what they do. Type in ar15 flash hiders and sift through all them, you'll find some good info. Surefire supplies a washer with it, I'm not sure vortex does. However, I have reused crush washers on flash hiders that didn't require timing on the ports and didn't have any issues. If the use of the word "timing" is confusing, it's the same as lining up the ports on the flash hider at the 3,9 and 12 o'clock position. Hope that helps ya my friend... |

Hi,
I'm also in California, and there are a few types of California compliant rifles. Factory Colt rifles (bullet buttons) Dealer modified Colt rifles, Detachable magazine featureless rifles, registered rifles and others. What type of California complaint rifle do you have? What is on the barrel now? Do you have a reason for wanting to remove a Genuine Colt flash suppressor if it has one on it? Knowing what you have and what you want to accomplish will help decide what should be on it. -William |
| Consider the Battle Comp Compensator. I've heard they are good. It may perform better than the standard a2 suppressor, and it does act as a compensator to reduce recoil. They have a good reputation. While the manufacturer of the battle comp sells these as compensators, CA law calls them flash suppressors and they can not be used on CA featureless detachable magazine rifles. They can only be used on rifles with a fixed magazine or a bullet button. -William |
