Bought a "Colt H2" buffer from brownells....got it today...I have 2 other Colt H2 buffers.  Question is this buffer doesn't have H2 stamped on it.  Came in a small plastic bag marked brownells at the top and Colt Defense H2 Heavy Buffer printed on it with a part number.  Buffer is a different color than my other two with no H2 stamp on it.  Whats the deal?  I guess I'll have to write H2 on it with a sharpie to ID it when changing out parts  Doesn't seem to be guenuine Colt to me... what gives?

That's strange, mine is clearly marked.

That is strange. Brownells is reputable, so I would guess that Colt is no longer marking them? I don't know though.. That's seems weird...

Do you have a scale to weigh them?

I don't know the weight differences, but there should be a difference if the new buffer is not an H2.

I am interested in this, as I was about to place an order for same from same -as I saw they had them @ $44.99. But...

it's a good opportunity to bring this up -SPECIALIZED ARMAMENT-

I do all my business with SA. Not because I am a moron or have more money than I know what to do with; I am not & I have not. However, what one consistantly receives from SA, at a premium (25% in this case), is NIW, absolute, bona fide, real deal Colt parts. No questions asked, absolutely! That , to me, has always been worth the price of admission.

I will be ordering mine from Ken -but still interested in the outcome.

Here is a few photos of the Buffer in question.  My other 2 "Colt" buffers look identical to the one pictured above with the H2 stamp.  Tomorrow I will weigh the buffer in question and I'm also going to contact Colt and ask them about this.  I will keep you posted.

What's the difference between Specialized Armament $60 Colt H2 buffer and $30 BCM H2 buffer?
Or for the unmarked Brownell's $45 H2 buffer?

Ahh, the age old question "what's the difference". What is the difference?; everything -nothing, which?

For me; genuine OEM Colt's parts -pure & simple. YMMV

You can get the Colt H2 or H3 buffers way cheaper from other venders besides SAW.

I'm also interested as I have one on my parts list for my current build, just haven't placed the order yet.

For the sake of completeness; I will update my post.

Received Colt's USGI H2 buffer from Specialized Armament. The following is as it reads:

Receipt - M4/M4A1 H2 Buffer Assembly

Package - clear, sealed package reads;

MIL-DLT-117H

TY III-CLB-STII

(arrow) EDCO 4/10

Buffer is marked H 2 -the H2 stamp is colored-in red.

For the nay sayers -I don't give a shit about the ifs, whats & whens. I set out to get a USGI M4 H2 buffer and that's exactly what SA shipped. Nothing more, nothing less -no doubt (s) about it.

So the "H2" stamp on the face of the buffer is red? Like they filled the stamped letters with ink?

I'm interested to hear about the buffer from Brownell's as well. Weight is the key, but odd that it isn't marked.

Newbie...be nice....my buffer in my Colt 6920 says H....want does the H2 buffer do for the gun? I take it that it's a feel thing?

an heavier buffer can reduce bolt bounce and slow down the rate of fire in a fullauto gun, but as you go heavier on the buffer you run the risk of short cycling with lighter loads.

Funny I just saw this thread. I received an H2 Colt buffer from Brownell's yesterday and it does have H2 marked on the face of the buffer.

The H2 soaks up the extra bounce from the medium contour barrel of the M4A1.

That being said, it would probably be helpful in any 16" carbine compared to a 14.5".

In point of fact, one would think that if the RO921HB needs one, the AR6721 should as well, but bolt bounce is far less apparent in semi-auto.

Incidentally, I've seen / heard of the SAW H2 buffers being marked in red, but the factory 6920SOCOM variants are not marked in red - perhaps it's a way to distinguish a new replacement part versus a factory part?  Colt did the same thing with their DC upper conversions, marking them with ".223" and "7.62x39" even though they issued factory rifles without these markings.

The only H2 buffers I've seen in "real" RO921HBs have been pretty well used, and I imagine any red would have long since worn off and / or been removed by solvents / lubricant.

consider a reliable (so far) semi-auto carbine: is there a way to tell if it suffer from bolt bounce?

Yes; the one received from SAW was & sealed in a mil-spec clear bag with no other indentifiers.

Thanks..I'll probably be just fine with the H bolt in my 6920....right?

Any update on this from the OP? I buy a lot of stuff from Brownell's, so I'm interested to hear the outcome. Did you weigh the buffer to verify whether it is an H2?

I ordered an H2 buffer from Brownells literally last week, it came in the same packaging as the OPs but it is stamped H2 on the face of the buffer.

If I had to guess the subcontractor missed stamping that particular example....stuff happens *shrug*

Sorry guys...I've been away for work for a while with only a work computer and naughty gun sites are blocked and couldn't access the forum.  Anyways, I DID get to the bottom of what happened and Brownells handled it.  The Buffer in question that I posted pics of was a Colt Buffer, but was not an H2 but rather a regular Carbine Buffer, even lighter than the "H."  Brownells told me they receive these in bulk and individually bag them in their own packaging, hence the Brownells bag.  He knew exaclty what I was talking about and said someone put the wrong buffer in the wrong bag.  I sent it back and "H2" is on the way.  No charge.

Glad to hear that you got it figured out. That's what I suspected, I've had a couple issues with Brownell's that were along similar lines, and I think they don't always use enough care with stuff they receive and then package in their own branded packaging.
