| why does colt only stamp dates into some barrels and not others. i purchased a nib 6520 saturday and there is no date stamped on the barrel. the barrel is marked C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7 by the flash hider. the only mark under the hand guards is a G under the gass tube.(what does that G mean). my 6450 also has no date stamp but my 6920 does. i called colt just to try and get an idea of when the gun was built i gave the kind lady on the phone the serial number and was told it was a government issue firearm so unfortunately they couldnt give me a build date. i asked her about there not being a date and she told me they were only dating the m4 profile barrels but didnt say why. i purchased the 6520 from gallery of guns and it has a serial in the LGC046XXX range ang going by the serial numbers of the guns on gunbroker i think mine is fairly recent production. i am just trying to get further educated on why things are the way they are. also is all colt barrels chrome lined. thanks for any and all help you can provide. |

she told me they were only dating the m4 profile barrels but didnt say why mmm...weird...even Match Target guns have the date marking anyway, I'd like to know the meaning of that G as well since it's on my 6731 barrel too I always thought that was a chrome lining mark. |
