I posted these questions on the regular AR board (I know, mistake, my bad) to no avail. And I'm sorry for the dupe, but sometimes my curiosity bugs me. ![]() So here it goes again! ![]() I picked up a Colt A1 upper with an A2 barrel today at a gun show. It's in very good shape, the rifling looks great, the rings are still tight & it's all Colt. I paid $ 400 plus tax ($427 all said) for it. How'd I do (is it worth that much) & does anybody know when it was made. Here's a link to my original post: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=366326 And some pics: ![]() The barrel markings (it also has the number "885" about halfway between the upper & the FSB, directly under the gas tube, not in pic): ![]() The BCG (it says C MP on the bolt it's self): ![]() The forward assist: ![]() And, the receiver forging marks:

That's a Colt model R6500 AR-15A2 Sporter II Rifle upper. The early production models had A1 uppers with A2 barrel, A2 flash hider etc like yours and the later models had the A1/A2 transitional upper with A1 rear field sight, forward assist, shell deflector, A2 barrel and A2 flash hider etc. $400.00 bucks isn't a bad price, especially if it's new/unfired. HTH's....O3 out!!

I just Googled "Colt R6500 A2" & the first thing was a Guns America listing with one (complete rifle) for $1100. They seem to hold their value. Mabye I shouldn't canabalize it for a couple of different builds I was thinking of using it for. I was thinking of using the upper to build either a CAR clone or a pencil barreled A1 & the Barrel & BCG for an A3.How much did the complete rifles go for new, back in the '80s? And it's been fired, but it's in really good shape. Judging from the wear, I'd say that it hasn't seen any more than a 1000 rounds. |
