I got a Colt 6450 that needs soomething for that long barrel. Since its a Colt I don`t want to do anything permanent.

I was thinking about a slip over fake suppressor, or a Bushmaster, slip over XM177 flash hider. Whadda yall think?

Post some pics if you can

Here's an idea..........

the downside of pencil/lightweight 16+" barrels is the anemic look. But many like it and appreciate the fact is so nimble

I wonder about the durability and accuracy of such a thin bbl. If you have seen the History Channel (or Military Channel) feature on building the FN M16, you would appreciate how easily barrels can be bent and the effect on accuracy it would have if it happens.

I know my post is of little help in your decision, but underscores the dilemma

But.......... I would ixna the faux parts idea

Fake stuff will just make your Colt look even uglier.

If you don't want to cut your original barrel, maybe just get another used barrel and cut it to 14.7" and permanently install a standard FS.

It will look clean done that way.

I considered the slip-over flash hider from Bushmaster for my 6450, however I decided to go the SBR route and I should have the stamp back in a couple of weeks.  I am sending my upper to Randall at AR15barrels.com to have the pencil barrel shortened to 10.5".  I dig the 9mm SMG look with the A1 upper

I'll post pics when I get it together.

Take off the nice Colt factory upper and put it away for a rainy day. Get a TROS 5" three lug barrel and a SWR Trident silencer. Cool SD look and quiet w/147 subs.

That's my plan anyway when I pick up one of these hard to find toys.

Yeah, it kinda sucks to chop the barrel on a factory upper, however once the stamp comes back I will never have the need for a 16" upper again.  I would have liked to snag one of the Colt 9mm SMG kits someone was selling a few weeks ago on the EE.  I believe it was everything minus the lower receiver for $500.00

Yeah, You're right. Kind of silly to hang onto the long pencil barrel and shell out the bucks for a new SBR upper. Maybe I'll just chop the original. Kind of hard to sell with my name and address on it anyway.

Is your 6450 currently in SBR configuration?  If so, please post pics.

Cheers
