If I was to buy a new Colt, do I need to seek out an LE only model for the preban features? Also, do even LE Colts use the regular size FCG pins? I understand all Colts have done away with the large hole lower pins. Don't really care whether there is a sear block or not. Thanks for the info. |

I would recommend current LE models for preban features. Current LE models have large diameter size FCG pins same as their MT series. The large diameter size FCG pins are no problem because they are available from other mfg like Bushmaster, RRA, KNS, etc. LE models are factory equipped with M16 BCG with BATFE approval since Feb-March last year. All current Colt models have small pivot pins and an unmachined web (which doesn't protrude above the lower receiver) which acts as sear blocks. ETA: I have a customized LE AR6721 tactical carbine with a midlength gas system, 1/7 barrel, pic link. |
Thanks again redfisher. It's actually pretty easy to do, just start with any Colt flat top LE carbine model, remove and replace the front end with a quality Mil-Spec middy barrel (I used Denny's Guns Operator barrel) and LaRue 9.0 (or even longer) with TD VFG, install your favorite grip (my favorite is the MIAD) and a Vltor club foot modstock complete kit or if you prefer other buttstocks like LMT SOPMOD, Magpul, etc. There are some Colt owners that told me they don't like my mods because they don't like to alter their factory gun. It's not for everyone maybe the best way is to have both (the ARFCOM way), get two Colts then modify one and keep the other one stock. |
