What was your first Colt?

My first AR was a Bushy Shorty AK (Phantom now). But my first Colt was a Sporter 2 Carbine, that I did a little remodeling on and looks like a XM-177.

So what was your first Colt?

An old rusty/crusty hand-me-down- Woodsmen given from a relative back before the 1968 GCA 0f'68. Used to take it down on the Platte River sandbars and shoot trash and bottles in the river bottoms in Nebraska.

First AR was a Colt Sporter Target Model. Large pivot pin. It had the gov't profile 20" barrel, Flash hider no bayo lug. Everything then was HBAR, go HBAR. Purchased a Colt HBAR top kit, and molested the target model. Regret selling off the govt profile topend.  Bought the rifle brand new for $575/ and since Colt had a promotion at the time, bought their 9mm carbine for $475 with their $100 off promotion for the recent prior Sporter purchase.

My uncle had a Colt AR from 1965 he bought new for 128.69 in Omaha. The good 'ol days before slick willie, and the GCA 0f '68. His son uses that back on the Platte River sandbars.

My first Colt, first AR and centerfire rifle was a new SP1 with A1 FS in '71.

I remembered that at first the only available ammo that I was using was the Norma brand.

I was living in WA state at that time, thirteen years later I sold it and got a new Sporter II.

Colt 6550 Sporter Target.  Blue Label, bought new in October 1994 for the outrageous price of $1700!  What I didn't know at the time was that I could have had a NIB transferable Colt M16A2 for probably $2800.  Of course I believed the BS rumor that the ATF could come to your house any time they wanted to snoop around if you owned machineguns (and I was too young to purchase a machinegun anyway).

It is an early blue label gun, with the sear block pinned only on the right side, .170" hammer/trigger pins, standard front pushpin, full mag fence factory drilled for takedown pin detent spring, and full A2 reinforcements.  I still have it and will never sell it.  The original upper and buttstock are laying around as spare parts and it currently wears a 6731 (the preban threaded barrel variety) upper with a Colt M4 enhanced stock.

my first Colt is my first AR and still my only AR.

Blue label MT6601 post ban (april 2000): small front pivot hole, no flash suppressor, no bayo lug, 20'' HBar.

I've threaded the barrel and added a flash hidder, replaced the plastic buffer with a metal one, replaced the screw pin with a push pin.

next will come a new FSB with bayo lug and maybe a new AR (colt 6530)

A2 Sporter Lightweight.  I replaced the A2 stock with a CAR stock almost immediately (long before the AWB) and then more recently replaced all of the furniture with a gray CavArms set.

I don't have a current pic or one by itself, but it is 4th from the right in this pic:

6520 and 6920.  I bought them both after the ban ended and was out of town when they arrived at my FFL.  I picked them up two days after Christmas as a late gift to myself in 2004.

6920.  I want a 6921 and 6933 to go with it, but an extra $500 for the Class 3 fees is a bit much

My first Colt (though not mine) was a Colt M16A1 back in 1992 (Basic Training - US Army), then a Colt M16A2 in Active Duty; back to an A1, but made by Hydramatic in the Reserves, then back to a Colt M16A2; now I have a Colt M4A1.

I bought two 6520s last year for $1k each.  Made minor comfort mods to one of them (gapper, A1 grip, M4 handguards) and "pimped" the other one for competitions that I run plus post-hurricane defensive purposes.

I hope to add some Colt Series 70 1911s to the mix soon but for my purposes (customization) it's a bit hard to justify the cost.  It would be akin to buying a Colt AR and stripping off everything but the upper and lower receiver and replacing everything else with new parts.

AR's ?,
An SP1 of course, it's all there was back then

Pistols? ha, a light weight Colt Agent, dont know why I chose it over the .45 next to it but I'm sure it had something to do with money

I dont remember the actual model, but in August of 1993, I bought a Colt 20in 1/7 HBAR with no bayo lug, but it had the A2 FS.  I bought the rifle NIB, and five 30 rd mags for $750 plus tax.

I sold the rifle afte I put thousands of rounds through it (but it was still in great condition) and the eight 30rd mags I had in 1997 for $1300.  Not a bad deal for me at all.  I was in college and needed the "women-n-wine" money.

I just bought (last week) a castrated LNIB Colt 1/9 HBAR (no FS or bayo lug) for the same price as I bought the NIB Colt in 1993 (I prefer the 1/9 anyways).  I will NOT be selling this one, especially since I will be "restoring" it to proper "A2 govt" specs (without the tri-burst, of course).  KKF will be doing the dirty deed of resizing the barrel to the A2 profile and threading the muzzle for the FS.

HOLD ON TO YOUR COLTS!!!!
