| Anyone know at about what serial number on Colt Sporter Target's the switch was made from large front pivot pins to small ones? |

Chairborne, Unfortunately I don't think there is a way to determine when the cutoff was. It's been my experience that Colt was kinda helter-skelter with the large-hole/small-hole lowers. Here is a quote off www.biggerhammer.net: "There doesn't seem to be a definitive list of which rifles have which receiver, or when Colt began using strictly A2 receivers for their AR-15's.". It sucks I know but maybe if you called Colt and sweet-talked them they could find someone that has your info. Good luck! |

All Colt R6550 and R6600 used A2 upper recievers thru out production and had large front pivot pins. That was one of its features of those day's. When the R6551 and R6601 came along in 1991 you could see the change of large hole to small hole a year or so later. Not to mean you can't find an R6601 made in 1993 with only the small front pivot hole but it would not have been the norm. Rule of thumb is any preban in the "Sporter Target" variety with a small front pin is a post 1992 weapon. Now when it comes to R6520's you can find them with small front pins dating back to 1988. Don't ask why. Just accept that Colt distributors like SOG and the like could have Colt produce a run of "slightly different" Colt versions of a "supposed to be" production weapon. JohnM at home |
