I recently got an older Colt (or so I was told) SP1 upper receiver (no barrel). This receiver has no forward assist and no brass deflector (which you would expect) and large pivot pin hole. The puzzling thing is that it has no markings on it at all. I am used to seeing C H or C M in the rear sight area. Could it be that early SP1 uppers had no markings or am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks,
Mark

Mark4, I opened my safe to look at two SP1 Sporters model# 6000 that i currently own and both these specimums were made in the 1970 and 1973 time frame based on serial numbers. Both uppers receivers do not have ID marks.

The only ID mark is located on the right side of the front post site.  Identified with a "C" mark under "Dog Ear" and a liberty bell which is on the right side horizontal plane of the site base.

The Pincil diamiter barrel is marked with C MP B at the six O'clock position about one inch behind the bird cage FH.
