The trend of adding shake awake to red dots always seemed odd to me. It presumably add cost to a product that is marketed as a budget option. One of the major reasons people buy red dots is precisely because they are so affordable and they often choose which brand to buy based on price. It also theoretically adds a new point of failure. What if the mechanism that detects motion fails and now motion is never being detected? That means you would have to keep turning the dot back on every ten minutes. For all I know maybe this feature is actually trivially cheap to add and barely impacts retail price at all. It would make more sense on something like an EOTech that works from a laser and runs on a CR123A with a one month run time. But putting shake awake into a red dot that works from an LED and runs on a CR2032 with a five year run time just strikes me as a marketing gimmick. |
