Hey guys. Ive had a predatAR 5.56 with 16"barrel for a while now and want to tame down the recoil a bit. My original plan was to use the red "extra power" buffer spring that was included with the rifle and replacing the buffer with an "H" buffer (as recommended on sprinco 's website).
I've the past few days I have been wondering if going with an adjustable gas block might be better alternative. SLR makes a low profile adjustable block for larue barrels. I could probably dial it in a bit better without having to use heavier springs and buffers. Which direction have you guys gone? Or should I just leave it as is? |

I use SLR adjustables on my suppressed tAR's. To me it just makes too much sense to dial the gas down at the gas block versus dealing with it in the action. Tuning is also very easy... a click or two vs. swapping springs and buffers to get what you want.
ETA: Not sure what it will give you in terms of mitigating recoil though. |

Awesome. The one thing that sucks for me is that my PWS comp is pinned on so I would need to destroy that in the process and would need to get another. If you aren't shooting suppressed I would not do that. Just try heavier buffers. The perceived recoil includes the impact of the buffer on the end of the receiver extension and if the rifle has a standard carbine buffer it is very likely that a heavier buffer will slow the action and reduce that part of the perceived recoil. I don't have my Predatar 556 rifle yet but using a 16" Predatar barrel in a build I found I preferred an H or H2 buffer. That *may* not be true of the actual Predatar rifle, but I suspect it will be at least for me. |

I don't play the suppressor game (yet), so I've taken the route of tuning at the back end of the gun versus adjusting the gas.
I've done different springs and buffers, but once I got my hands on a JP Silent Captured Spring, I turned around and ordered enough to go in all my rifles. Not only are you able to tune with different spring weights within the system (which I've done only once between four sets on mid length and rifle length systems), but the 'spring twang' that was my least favorite attribute of the AR system is gone. Between the SCS and different styles of brakes on the barrel, all my rifles have very light recoil - almost non-existent. Brakes obviously come with the compromise of noise and blast for those that may be in your proximity. |
