Don't know if this has ever been discussed, but...
Aimpoint Micro - Pivot mount from top of rail to offset position. Was thinking it could be nice in the top of rail position for every day HD use, but flip (EDIT like a magnifier pivot mount) to an offset position to quickly add another optic such as an ACOG. A.W.D. |

if i wanted that type of setup i wouldnt want to be trying to mount, even with QD levers, an acog or scope in the middle of some shit
i would just run this link just my 2 cents |

I will probably use the one on the rifle scope because I would have to mount the angled mount on the handguard rail.... It is a freefloat rail that is rock solid, so it would work fine. I just think I would be able to switch between them better with the scope mount attachment, less head/weapon movement. Either way, a lot of practice is involved in order to do it effectively. I currently have no BUIS on the 6.8, but I do have a spare Vortex Sparc, and the mount is a lot cheaper than a set of LaRue/Troy flip up sights..... They are an eventuality, just funds are tight through the end of the year. I work in the oil business and it looks like I will be making about 20K less this year than last year due to low oil prices slowing down work.... |

Offset aimpoint makes no sense to me, especially as you describe flipping it out of the way and adding another sight that's just to much crap on your gun. Just take it off, that's the beauty of QD. with a scope or acog i can see where it would be nice as you transition from shooting bad guys at range to close range, twist gun 45 degrees and engage, the bad guys wont wait on your to switch optics |

Backup irons, mandatory. Offset RMR, I get that. Bigger than that |

Seems it could be nice to be able to run the Aimpoint most of the time, but able to "convert" on the fly to an offset mount ('cause I like those too) when I want to move to the ACOG. More I think about it though, it does sound like a cumbersome proposition to make it work, with how the site would have to rotate into either position. As well, would make things difficult at best to maintain proper alignment of the Aimpoint, relative to the bore and Elevation/Windage adjustments. Let's just chalk this one up as a late night bad idea. Never mind folks, but thanks for the input regardless. Happy Friday, stay safe and stay cool. A.W.D. |

I can see the purpose of offset irons, RMR or similar for switching to engage close targets from a scope either for 3 gun type comps or life and death engagements of close range to distance targets. An ACOG though (depending on the model), not so much -- my 3x is fast to use as is. For HD, slap an MRO or Aimpoint on there and leave BUIS flipped up and be done with it. I really want one of the little 1.5x16 ACOGs for my SIG MPX though. |
