Not with the department any more but I will say all departments either have a auction or the place a different serial number on the gun and make them available for officers to check them out of their gun room. Of course this is after any and all court case that involves the weapon. Look it up. Worked for Metro Nashville PD. They do it. Where are all the guns seized after Katrina? You think those guns are not in the hands of cops? Those people are still trying to get their guns back. Also a fact. But I'm making it up only my old department does things like that. Ha! Stupidity is contagious watch out!

So Nashville simply alters serial numbers and gives away other people's guns? Sounds legit. Maybe guns that were "seized" as part of a crime might be used for a patrol rifle program...possibly...but I have a hard time believing what you are saying happens often. That has federal trouble written all over it.
All of our guns are barcoded and end up in our crime scene building and are in a room locked with fancy freaking face or retina scanner. It's like James Bond stuff. Your claim about ALL departments auctioning guns off or altering serial numbers to use them for their own personal use is 100% completely false. You sound like someone that got fired from Nashville PD. Originally Posted By 3StampCollector:

After 3 or 4 months, she got a call from a Ft. Lauderdale homicide detective. They had her gun, she immediately told him she wanted it back. He told her after the case was settled, she'd get it back. After a couple of years, she couldn't get anyone to answer or return calls, detective she was talking to transferred. Just guessing some cops wife has her pistol. It was a pink LCP. |

Holy shit, what a small world it is indeed! Really hope this works out for you, Narc! (As an aside, it's kinda weird rooting for a Narc; things sure have changed in the 20 years since high school. )
Also, LOL @ the former Nashville PD firearms thief.

Face up, make your stand, and realize you're living in the golden years.
| Good luck man! Stay on both PD's. There should have confirmation that the gun was recovered by the PD. |

Not necessarily..... Homicide trials can take years to prosecute and the gun would be kept in evidence until the case is done. Call the evidence department and ask. |

If she got a call from a Homicide Detective, then the gun was evidence in a homicide. Unless the case was closed and the suspect has exhausted the appeals process, it's still evidence. No police officer is going to risk prison to steal a pink LCP, when CDNN has them on super sale for about $250. My department has an axe in evidence that was used in a murder back in 1977. 19 year old male killed his girlfriend with it. It was his first arrest. He was convicted and sent to prison. He was killed in prison 2 years later. We still have the axe because "It was used in a murder." Call the Chief and ask about it. Or get a lawyer involved. |
