What scopes are LaRue owners using for long range shooting, beyond red range? I like those tight groups. midrange shooting for me, out to 200 500 yds. I shoot F TR with a night force comp on my Savage and want to have a good scope to swap with my Eotech for longer range on
My PreditOBR. I am thinking 20x. 1500$ is my target budget. Has anyone used the Bushnell tactical elite HDMR? |

For $1500 you really do have quite a few options. I won't go into great length, but a few that come to mind:
The new Bushnell scopes are a great value. They are definitely something to consider. Get behind one before buying imo, just in case you're not comfortable with their reticle options. Another option would be a used Nightforce. Plenty of them go up on the various forums for ~$1500. Third option would be a Gen 1 Vortex Razor HD 5-20. These can be had ~1200-1450 give or take? Still new from the factory. Again fantastic value. If you don't mind SWFA, they offer the SS HD 5-20 for about $1300. Again a lot of value in the scope with some great glass for the money. Did you have a reticle preference? Any specific brands you dislike? There's really a lot out there right now in the $1500 and under range, you just need to narrow down your wants and needs a little bit more. If you don't mind used, you can really score some excellent deals. |

Bushnell DMR 3.5 x 21 goes for $1200, very clear glass. 34MM tube
Leupold MK 4 goes for about the same depending on the power range. Very clear glass, just not as wide a field of view as the Bushnell. 30 MM tube. More reticle options than the Bushnell, including illumnated reticles. Some models have a 34 MM tube but they are closer to $2K The SWFA 10X goes for $400 and is plenty for 500 yards....... |

I have several scopes from Vortex and Bushnell. They're all pretty solid, and both companies offer outstanding support if needed.
I'm a big fan of the G2 reticle in the Bushnells and have this in 3-12, 6-24, and 3.5x21. If I were going to buy another one today, especially for long range, I would consider the XRS 4.5-30x50 G2 FFP with a street price about $1700 ETA: You might find this article interesting: Precision Rifle: Scopes: What the Pros use If I were to exceed your price range, I would look at the Vortex HD Razor Gen II 4.5-27x56. Buy once, cry once. |

The SWFA 10X goes for $400 and is plenty for 500 yards....... I agree with this. If you decide you don't need adjustable magnification, the SWFA SS in 10x or 12x are absolutely fantastic. I run a 12x on my 5.56 Stealth/Precision rifle and the optic is an absolute pleasure to use. I run a Vortex Razor HD on my 7.62 Tobr and sometimes feel like the SWFA should have been priced much higher. The quality and function for the cost make it one of the more exceptional non-adjustable optics on the market. |
| I had 20 year old eyes 40 years ago. Now bright and clear are big factors in how I like my scope. I dont hate any brands and fall to public opinion to some degree because I havent the money to buy them all and try them out. I look at my range for scope others have but I must live in the area when the shooters close their eyes when shooting since the scopes they have are all most always crappier than my worst scope. So I dont get to look thru many good scopes. I did try a S&B once and well what could you expect for that money. I really do want to cry once and not be dissatisfied. Like the used nightforce idea. |

If you meant 4.5-27x56, that's exactly what I did. It's an impressive scope. Quoted:

I like them as well, in fact, this is what I want to install on my M-1A. Would be nice to find one for this price, all the ones I have seen are closer to $2200. Unless you are talking about the ones with the 30MM tube which is a no go for me as I have a 34MM LT-112 waiting to be filled with Bushnell goodness...... |
