So, my new Larue will be my first foray into the AR-15 world.  In anticipation of receipt of my rifle (God willing and the Wicked Witch of the West Coast don't rise), I'm looking for suggestions on what accessories to get to go with it.

I'm thinking this is going to be my "end of the world"/SHTF gun, but will use it for range fun, etc.

Got any thoughts on how to pimp my tOBR?

Go to LaRue's website and start filling up your shopping cart with index clips, a bipod, extra picatinny rails, iron sights, some sort of optic with a QD mount, sling, case, pressure switch light and new A-PEG grip.  After you recover from bankruptcy, do it all over again!

Haha sure is, but I actually bought all that for myself already.  Except the bipod and Multitasker, those are next.

Thanks everyone!   Keep them coming!

It's going to be a 16.1" in 5.56....

If you've got specific models of accessories you prefer over others, please don't hesitate to be specific....

Cheers,

Mine is staying simple. 14.5" 5.56

APEG Grip
RAT Stock
LaRue branded Troy BUIS
3x ACOG in LaRue mount
Surefire brake
Sling TBD

Could someone explain the different types of optics to me, or point me to a thread or site somewhere that explains it all?  I'm a bit overwhelmed as to what optic is for which task, which ones I need, and which ones would be redundant to have.

Thanks!

On my 14.5" PredatOBR 5.56 I'm going with:

EOTech EXPS 3-0
Aimpoint 3X with LT Tall Pivot Mount
KAC Front Flip Sight
Matech Rear BUIS
Surefire/VTAC Mini-L4 with VTAC Light Mount
Magpul/VTAC Hybrid Sling (VTAC Wide Sling with Magpul MS2 hardware)
Magpul RSA
Magpul ASAP
Magpul BAD Lever
Surefire Flash Hider
LT Hand Stop
LT APEG
LT RAT

The APEG and RAT might get replaced with the TD Battle Grip and Magpul CTR, depending on how I like the LT products after some range time.

If I were you I'd be focusing on three-four things before "pimping":

Iron sites (get the LaRue marked Troys front n back)
Mags
Ammo
Sling

Everything else is gravy!

But can't go wrong with:

Index Clips
Fug grip
Aimpoint or ACOG
Surefire light (may I suggest x300 ultra)
Handstops

Bipod and a T1? Why? Seems... extraneous

My wishlist:

Magpul ASAP
Magpul MIAD
RAT or CTR with RISR not sure which yet
Surefire Scout in LT 752 and SR07 Tape switch
Harris BRM-S in LT706 for fun
ACOG TA31 in LT100
KAC micro or Troy BUIS
BADASS Ambi selector
BCM Mod 4 CH
Maybe a little cerakote...

I think I'd be satisfied...

The T1 isn't my only optic I plan on using.  Also the bipod would be for my 7.62 and 700 as well,  I should have clarified that, good point.

Gotcha, makes sense now. You listed "Frog lube" and a T1 battery cover so I figured if you had another optic it would have been listed too.

First AR?  Serious answer?

Iron sights, sling, magazines, and ammo.  Then get more magazines and more ammo.  Throw in some more magazines and ammo.

Put a couple of hundred rounds downrange minimum.  Master your iron sights, reload drills, clearing stoppages, and shooting on the move.

Once you run your gun instead of your gun running you, then you can "pimp" your gun.

Mastering shooting fundamentals is more important than bling.

Good advice!  The "pimping" part was me just looking for a catchy thread title.  :)

I've been a bit overwhelmed with the array of options in optics, slingmounts, lights, etc. so I figured I would ask.

Thanks for all of the tips!

+1 on the thanks on advice from Covertness.  I'm also waiting for my 5.56 tAR 18' as my first AR.   Figure do it once, and do it right.
