Sorry to have to ask.  Just happen to see this mount in an ad.  What in the world would you use this for?  9080

Sorry man, didn't see in that article.  What do you guys use them for, that you wouldn't use anything else for?  Meaning, how much of an actual signaing device could they actually be?  Or is there something else?  I'm sure that civies have no use really.  Thanks, take care, 9080

Instead of letting some Johnny Jihadist run his VBIED right up on your checkpoint and head off to his "paradise", you use Escalation of Force / Rules of Engagement (progressively more aggressive stance / actions) to get him to slow down so your DRM guy up in the tower can get a good look at him through a scope / optic, and maybe figure out his intentions before the car gets inside the KILL LINE.

By the same token, you don't want to swiss-cheese a minivan full of school kids with your .50 cal MG just because Abu the Driver isn't paying 100% attention.

ETA:  Aside from pen flares, my unit used to use green laser "sparklers".  They would make your car look like it had been hit by a bolt of alien plasma or something, blind you for a second, and get your attention.  It all depends on what individual units bring to or receive from their predecessor(s) in sector.

Tactical INk Pen Holder Yo...
Ahh, thanks anyway, I think I'll pass.

Thanks 25MM.  So in other words, just a "chin check" for the JJ, telling him, that you ain't fucking around.  Before you arrange his meeting to paradise.

Thanks guys, I didn't want one, I just didn't know what they were for.  Curiosity more than anything.  9080

It makes it quick to transition from "show" to "shoot" (following EOF) when you don't have to drop your weapon. It's kind of a pain to quickly grab your penflare, get it cocked and fire it when it's buried in a pouch (or even strapped to your kit) and you need RFN.

The mount would've come in handy a few times out here.

But you'd have to watch out if you keep the launcher "cocked and locked" mounted to the weapon. It would be pretty easy to catch the firing knob on a piece of kit and have it ND on you.
