Sorry if this has been asked before, but I searched and searched (maybe my search foo is weak?)...
I have an OSR on order, and I plan to sell my Fulton Armory Titan to fund it when the time comes (great rifle), but I would keep the Titan and rebarrel it to .338 Federal if knew the answer to this question: Which parts of the OSR are proprietary and which parts are not? Pivot and Take down pin position? Bolts? BCGs? Firing pins? I know about the mags and I've got a boat load of SR25/DPMS 19/20 rounders, but what about the rest? Can I put a DPMS upper on an OSR and vice versa? Should I buy an AR10 in .338 Federal? Help me... Anyone know for sure? For sure? Kerry PS I think the answer is 'no', but hope springs eternal... I want the OSR either way. |

Well, my own additional research leads me to believe that the OSR will probably be AR10 / SR25 compatible, not DPMS. So, the Titan probably has to go. Now what about bolts, extractors, firing pins, etc. for spares? AR10 pieces? Larue specific? Anyone know?
I heard crickets chirping after the first post, maybe I'll get luckier this time. Kerry |

We are all guessing now, but OSR compatibility seems to be:
Mags-> DPMS/KAC pattern Bolt groups-> Armalite (maybe DPMS, if headspace is ok) Individual bolt group parts should never be mixed between manufacturers. An Armalite pin will not work in DPMS and vice versa. Upper receiver compatibility seems to be with SR-25. It uses same pin location as Armlite, but different pin diameter. No DPMS upper compatibility. LaRue alluded to an eventual Armalite compatible upper (with the correct pin size). Maybe after 50,000 complete rifles first. The Fire control group seems to be compatible with AR-15/Ar-10/DPMS since they all can use the same trigger parts. If you have a complete rifle from Fulton, and a complete OSR rifle from LaRue the only parts I would want to share is mags anyway. And thats the part we do know FOR SURE. If you went with an AR-10 for 338, then you would need a set of new mags. So thats not a great idea. Now here is the interesting part, you could get an AR-10 upper receiver, and build that out in 338 (or buy a complete 338 upper from Armalite). Then you enlarge the pivot pin holes on the upper from .278" to .281", and then the 338 upper could work on your OSR lower. Thats the theory anyway. |
