Hey guys, I know I could ask this in General or wherever, but I'm thinking I can get more positive answers and less flames from the Larue crew..

How does one get into 3-gun shooting?   I'm in the D/FW area (Grapevine) and have been an avid shotgunner for several years.   I grew up in NY and had some limited time with the AF before I lost my candidacy as a pilot due to a broken ankle playing Basketball in college so my AR practical experience has been the time I have spent with myself and a few guys over the last 10 years.   I also played competitive paintball for almost 10 years and 3-gun seems to be the most like the rush I would get during a PB match with the exception of someone shooting back! LOL!

If I wanted to get into 3-gunning, what would I need?   I do not have a carbine as of right now as my current ARs are a Wilson Combat SS and an AR-57 toy.   I think I am set on the shotgun and pistol part: For a shotgun, the closest thing I have to a combat shotgun is my trusty old Smith & Wesson 916A it is a 12-gauge pump that my dad used to carry in his squad car before I stoie it for deer hunting.   It has iron sights and holds 8 in the tube.   If that won't work I have several fine Over/Unders .   Pistol wise I would go with my Kimber Custom 2.   Would I need to get a different AR or would the big, heavy varmint rig work out?

Any guys on here from the Dallas area willing to take a 3-gun "n00b" under their wing and show him the ropes?

~  Rico

PS... where around Dallas is there that has a 3-gun course?   Does Ridgerunners out near Breckenridge have one?   That is where my dove,/turkey lease is.

Having the ability to print $100 bills helps too.

Jimmy used to run a 3 gun on once a month at RidgeRunners.  Don't know if he still does.  Give him a call and ask.  He's a good guy.

Oh, I know that is there... I roll through there every once in a while.   I was just hoping to get some love from my Larue brothers.

My best advice is to just start shootin the matches.  shhot slow and as accurately as you can at first.  i never shot the matches to beat the other guys.  i would just shoot to top myself.  i always had alot of fun.  i found it was more fun to just shoot an idpa or uspas and carbine matches seperatly.  less to carry.  whatevr you shoot you will have fun.  as you learn you will figure out what gear you need.
