I have a LaRue Stealth Upper and Lower build. Its an excellent rifle, except for one problem: it appears that with the bolt closed (and a round chambered), reloads are a bitch.
After doing some testing, including swapping out lowers with an LMT, it appears that the problem might have to do with the LaRule Bolt Carrier Group. I haven't been able to test this out because my primary and backup BCGs are both LaRues, but there doesn't appear to be anything else in the way to cause a problem. I have also tried this with all 15 of my PMAGs and different GI mags that others at the training had. The problem is basically this: While doing a tactical reload, I have to basically SMASH the bottom of the mag into the receiver with a lot of force. This is annoying if you are in a two day Tactical Carbine class where you are constantly doing reloads to keep your gun topped off. While troubleshooting this in my garage after that weekend, I found that I wasn't having a problem, which makes me wonder if it has something to do with the gun being hot. I am going to test some more at the range this weekend, including possibly borrowing my friends BCG (with my bolt, so we don't screw up our bolt/barrel mating). I really hate to point the finger at anything LaRue makes because I've loved my rifle and mounts and everything else I've bought, but I need to be able to do these types of reloads. I might end up sending one of the BCGs back to LaRue and replacing it with an LMT just to make sure that isn't the problem. Any other thoughts/suggestions? |
