I see you guys are regularly stocking 5.45x39 commercial ammo these days.  During the cheap 5.45 days I pasted on buying an AK74 mainly because I didn't want to have to worry about the whole cleaning thing.  I know the cleaning thing was not that big of an issue, but that's me.

The AK74s don't seem as available as they once were.  At this point is it better to stick with the 7.62 or is the 5.45 in your opinion still worth fooling with?

The corrosive nature is a bit of an issue.  I missed cleaning the inside of the non-chromed AK74 muzzle brake on my Arsenal SGL31-61.  It's all pitted with rust now.  I cleaned the bore and action and everything else like I was supposed to and just forgot about the inside of the expansion chamber on the brake.  Oh well...

I bought a chromed one hoping that would help in case I have a brain lapse again in the future.

I, too, would like a nice 74 option.  I really love my WASR-2.  Its finish looks like crap, but it works just as well as the SGL.  I wonder why nobody has those anymore?

Doesn't matter then.  If you want accuracy and good terminal performance in humans then 5.45 is the answer.  If you want commonality and intermediate barrier penetration then 7.62 is the answer.

I remember the days of the $219 SAR-2s.
