Cheap. Is there any other kind in 5.45?

bryan, a few months back i had the opportunity to speak with a gun tech (i'll leave the company name out)  about the 5.45 ar style rifles/uppers they make.  i told him i have 5.56 ars, but the cheaper 5.45 for volume shooting was looking hard to pass up.  the guy said it's best to stick with the 5.56 in ars, unless i was only planning on shooting the higher end 5.45 rounds which to me defeats the purpose of buying one.  he recommended getting a gun designed for the 7.62x39 or 5.45x39 if i wanted to shoot surplus ammo.  the folks that buy surplus ammo from you guys don't seem to be reporting any real problems, so what's the real story?  i know at times gun techs can be a little anal about how we should treat their products we buy.  bub

there are two reasons to buy a 5.45 upper

1.I am going to buy a bunch of ammo to stock up, and always have cheap ammo to shoot

or

2.I shoot allot per month and want to save $

if you aren't going to stock up, or don't shoot allot per month, its not worth it. you won't see the cost savings

i know a guy who has already saved $2,000 in two years buy shooting 5.45

my 5.45

can i assume you are mainly shooting the silver bear non-corrosive since you have a can on the gun?

or do you also shoot the 53gr surplus russian 5.45x39 without any trouble?

thank you, bub

Bryan,

What barrel length is that, 12.5"? I wish you would stock 10-12.5" length, not just the 8" you have on order. I asked Spikes and they said to contact AIM on all 5.45 uppers.

[#12]
Bryon, what kind of can is that, and I take it you have no issues with corrosion with the 5.45, if you rinse it out and dry it after use, right?

And what about the mag in that gun?

12.5 midlength gas, Adco cut it down and played with the port

Spikes is working on some 8" 5.45s

Which is.....??

Most of mine work great the first time I use them - then they all seem to have problems 2-3 times per mag, always on the right feed lip.  Matte and satin finishes alike.  Guess I ought to just pony up and buy a feed lip bending tool...

I guess at that length, it would really  burn up the baffles in a suppressor.

Any discussion about barrels a bit longer?

That is good to know, I had heard some bad things about the reliability of the ASC 5.45 mags. Do your regular 20 rounders work reliably? I have a few sitting in a box.

I am signed up for the notification, but is there any time frame on when the 16"ers might be back in stock?
