I have been looking for an aiming laser for my carbine, and have a question or two about some of the new LDI models, specifically the DBAL I2 and the OTAL A with the green lasers. One is how great is the ability to see or track the beam back to the user at night? This is not a huge deal for all of my applications, but there are circumstances in which it may be a concern.

Second, and more important to me, is how green lasers function in below freezing temperatures. I have heard that below 0 C the performance is spotty at best. LDI even lists this as the bottom range for operating temps. As I am not fortunate enough to live in a more temperate zone, and my carbine may get dragged out of a very cold car at night, I want to make sure that it will operate.  I was hoping that someone with firsthand experience could tell me if these ratings were conservative, and these units actually function below freezing (think 0 F).

I would have no problem with red, but I was hoping for the increased daylight performance of the green. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

From deployments, i can tell u that both military issue and personally bought green lasers had issues at extreme cold  and extreme hot temperatures.

They worked, just the power output dwindled down until the unit either cooled down or warmed up.

Long day out in iraq sun? Laser unit was weakkkk.
Stuck in cold Afghan hill? Laser's weak.

As long as you aint stuck in a blizzard, i'm sure the green will run fine.
It definitely is easier to see than red.
Good luck with your choice!@
