I assume that I can use the RDP-II as a standard cowitness red dot on my Colt flattop with the factory base right? Thanks.

You would need an ARMS #17DR or a Larue equivalent to co-witness your irons. Hope this helps.

Are there any other options besides spending 80-100$ for a mount? Seems very wasted $ to me.

How much rise does the RDP-II need? 1/2"? or what. Anyone got any other options for cheap mount bases? I measured with guessing how much higher a perfect cowitness would be and it is close to 1/2"

Anyone with ARMS 17 know how much rise it gives?

I can't see why a YHM 1/2'' riser wouldn't work, and I don't know why only the more expensive solutions are suggested instead.
