Sir, I was wondering if the outside diameter of the D-300 unit in front is the same as the PVS-14 family and the MUM family (all appearances indicate those are the same diameter).

I am wondering if the D-300 can be fitted with some of the same mounts intended for the PVS-14 that use the "clamp" style of attachment on the outside of the unit (as opposed to the screw-style attachment).

Thank you,
CD

The lens O.D. of the 300 is different unfortunately than the PVS. The only two mounts that work with the D-300 is the PRI-M69 and/or the PVS-14 Mil-Spec Mount. Hope this helps.

It does, thank you very much.

I am torn between getting two D-300's *or* 1 MUM at this point.

The special MUM Gen 2SHP I have here on the ARFCOM is REALLY an AWESOME platform to say the least. Much added resolution clarity over the D-300. www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=23&t=489217

That's my quandary, quite frankly. That setup looks like a perfect "Everything you need and nothing you don't" for an awesome price.

My budget is in the $3k range, and I really really want to setup TWO rigs (wife's and my own). So I am torn. For ~$2300, the MUM SHP package you have seems to be the ticket, but it's tough to justify considering what my application(s) are, and considering my $$$ availability.

Going to have to sit and think on this one, I suppose.

NOT that the "Minister of Finance" is less important, but a good solution may be to get the D-300 for her and the MUM SHP for you?

I used to run cheap equipment, and after equipment failures, I never skimp anymore. "Buy cheap, buy twice" comes to mind.

So I always go quality, when it's applicable.

I also have this real deep dark feeling in my gut when I would get sub-standard equipment for the wife or kids. The result is Top Tier Team equipment for both of us, not skimping on her's.

I mean seriously, how could I live iwth myself if I was the only one who had Level IV plates in their setup and something happened to her, right?

So this brings me back to the subject- IMO, the "resolution" or "visual quality" between the D-300 and MUM SHP is really minimal, and when comparing to that of lesser-quality optics, substantial. So I wouldn't feel the least bit worried about both of us running a D-300 rig. However, mine will get SO much more use than hers, both head-mounted and weapon-mounted, wheras her's will be nearly 100% weapon-mounted.

As I said, quite a quandry. Though obvious, this new option was something I had neglected to consider. Thanks for virtually-bonking me in the head and making me realize I have a few more options than the ones I limited myself to. :)

Totally understandable, and considering the use her's will get, very doable.

So, after much deliberation, anxiety, and general "WTH should I do?" I think I am going to go with the MUM for right now.

The big detractor for me was the non-standard mounting method, and that limits me greatly to the availability of mounts out there (was eying the PRI model). But the strengths it seems to have over the D-300 have appeared to outweigh that downside greatly.

After talking with the "Supreme Allied Commander" h
A few questions though, if you would indulge me. HowEven though you're correct, the mount has a SMALL amount of not sitting in the rail incredibly tight, it does the job. As we know we really do not have to worry about a NVD maintaining zero BEHIND an reticle optic.

I am planning on mounting it in tandem with an EOTech 557.AR223, which has the 7mm raised base. Are you aware of any issues with the new MUM-Mount mounting too low on the rail to be useful in this combination? Is there a workaround if there are problems? (small rail-risers maybe?)  The stock mount MAY sit a bit low...I have not tried the mount with the 557 as yet. I do know the newer MUM mount does sit up a 1/2" higher.

I'm also going to have to throw down $$$ for illume tools and markers. The "Guardian Beacon" looks the heat, is that included free with purchase of a MUM-G2-SHP? Or is that only if I buy one of the Gen3 units?  I'll get  you out one regardless. h
Thanks for all the assistance on this one; You've really helped me out, and that doesn't go unappreciated. hank
