My wife bought me a dedicated 22 upper for Christmas back in December 2010. I asked for it because my Ciener 22 kit wasn't as accurate I would have liked. I have since used it to train all three of my children on the AR. It's reliable and accurate. Tonight I challenged my son in an informal bullseye competition at my local indoor range. Granted it was only 25 yards, but the goal was to keep as many rounds in a 2" square, with most staying inside an inch. My son is not a bad shot, but the CMMG upper smoked him. It's as accurate as some of my bolt guns and we were using crappy bulk pack ammo. With the insane prices of 556 ammo the 22 upper is almost all I shoot.
Anyway, in these crazy anti-gun times just wanted to say "thanks" for making a cool product. I wish I bought another upper before the craziness started so my son could have his own now. |

@defenderhome
I purchased a dedicated upper back in July and absolutely love it and promote their 22 kids to everyone I know. As far as ammo it'll all depend on the type of bolt you have, the SS bolt with collar seems to have no break in time and will eat everything I've tested. I know multiple people that have reported a 250-500 round break in time on the non SS bolt / collar. During the break in they all had some feed issues depending on the type of ammo they used, once they got past the break in period they didn't have any issues, they all seemed to have the best luck with minimags during the break in though. |

I borrowed an older BDM mag (gen 2?). I had Remington golden bullets and whiel it ran pretty well., I had some failures to feed. The bullet would bend at teh case while feeding and I could not get it to go on in-had to eject the half fed round and move on. I got in some BDM x-mags (plastic and metal lipped ones) and some CMMG grey ones as well. Looking forward to trying them out. I have the SS bolt. |

No issues with my 16" CMMG, put about 3k through it before I cleaned it out of boredom. Shoot mostly Federal bulk pack using BDM X-mags with metal lips. The BDM did have some issues feeding Aguila Hypervelocity, the ammo would twist inside the magazine as I was loading it. Think the malfunction had to do with the bullet shape as it was a lighter bullet and a different ogive than Federal bulk. |
