I finally got to test fire my India kit yesterday. I put up a zero target to check my grouping and looked good, didn't think twice, even tihough it was pretty open for 25 yards. After I got 50 rounds through it, I started seeing radical hits, about 3 feet apart from each other. I stopped and cleared the weapon, fired a few 5.56 to check zero and clear fouling. I fired 10 more rounds and still saw radical shifts and tumbling visible from shooting at the zero target. I stopped firing, pulled the kit out and went home to see what the problem was. Apparently, there was significant amounts of lead building up inside the insert. It was so bad that I had to use a hammer to push out the build up. I don't know what might've caused it but this should be a reminder to always check your gear and if something isn't right, don't ignore it!
CMMG: I cleared the adstruction without damaging the unit in any way. I can't image what might of caused it but I was using soft point ammo, though in small quantities. It was cold (by AZ standards) @ 35° f and the unit was well lubricated. Pictures will be posted of what I managed to clear out once I get my photobucket account password fixed. |
