I picked up one of the stainless .22 conversion kits from Midwest Industries a few weeks ago. This thing has run absolutely flawless for the 200 or so rounds that I've put through it. My only issue is the magazine that came along with the kit. For some reason I have to push hard to seat it in the mag well, and once it's in there I have to work extra hard to get it out. This is an AR that I've had for a while and have no issues any any other magazines. Regular USGI steel and P-mags all drop just fine when I hit the mag release.

To trouble shoot I've tried a friend's Black Dog and X-Form 22 mag in my gun and both pushed in and dropped out nice and easy like any other magazine. Since I reload I grabbed my micrometer to see if the mag that came with my CMMG conversion was wider or longer and maybe needed some sanding. No dice... the measurements seem to be almost exactly the same as the Black Dog and X-Form mag, AND they seem to have the same curve to them.

Has anybody else had these problems? It's driving me crazy that I can't figure out where the problem is.

Thanks for any help.

As per the instruction you have to sand or shave the protuberance on the back of the mag on both halves.
Just file till is flush

Which instruction are you speaking of? I went back and re-read the paperwork that came with my CMMG conversion bolt and it says nothing about shaving down the magazine. Again, it's almost exactly in spec with the other two untouched/stock magazines that drop free without issue. I can't tell where it's binding up and I don't want to just randomly start shaving down the magazine, especially when it's almost literally the same size, within 1/1000 of an inch, of magazines that do fit.

If it's a Grey Magazine there are 2 small dimples along the back rib that are meant to be filed to make a
perfect fit in your lower. If it's one of the new BHOA Waffle Mags, I had one of these get stuck in an Olympic
Lower the other night. This may take some more thought because these magazines have worked perfect in
all my other lowers..

Good Luck,
Dave South

Thanks for all the replies. It is a gray mag and it was the dimples on the back ridge. Once I filed those down I got it to work perfectly. Seems so obvious after the fact!
