Would a titanium extractor claw be more durable than a SS?  Or maybe a heavily discounted package of SS extractors would be nice.  5000 rounds for the life of an extractor comes too fast.   Other than that I absolutely love my CMMG dedicated upper.

Not sure what happened with yours. Mine have over 20k on it. I've never had to replace an extractor

If I can get off my butt I'll take a pic.

It's hard to get a decent pic of something so small but you can see the point is chipped badly.

In the picture we can see the end is worn. I am with Dave, I have never worn one out even at many thousands of rounds. But, that does not mean it can't happen. I would just replace it with the stock extractor and see how it goes. I don't keep a super accurate count of round through mine but I know I buy a LOT the 550 round boxes of Federal .22, picking them up four or six boxes at a time. (Did you notice the price increase on these lately!) Anyway, just try a new one and see how it goes.

Not sure exactly what you mean by that.

Is this what you are describing as a "chipped" point?

Yep, that's about what it looks like.  I'll be buying a couple extractors just to have an extra on hand.  Don't get me wrong fellas, I'm not complaining about CMMG.  I can't go out to the ranch without taking my dedicated .22lr.  If the extractor is something that needs to be replaced periodically I was hoping for a more economical or durable solution.  Apparently this is not a common experience.  And yes I have definitely noticed the price of bulk going up.  I really watch Cabelas and Slander Mtn for sales and then stock up.

Better pic.  Now your going to tell me what I am seeing is what they are supposed to look like?

Well, yes.

Those "chips" are actually relief cuts that allow the tip of the extractor to get under the rim in order to provide live round extraction from the chamber.

It's made that way so you can eject an unfired round from the gun.

The picture I posted has a brand spanking new extractor in it. The whole assembly is new for that matter.

As long as the weapon fires, extracts and ejects - don't replace anything.

"If it ain't broke - don't fix it."

It would not hurt to keep an extra on hand though. You never know when these parts will suddenly disappear.

Well that is good news although it doesn't explain my failure to extracts last Sunday.  I did give the bore a good brushing afterwards so hopefully it's good.  That is why I checked it in the first place.  I will slap that sucker back in and spend my $$$ on more bulk!

Some good advice about keeping certain spare parts around for a firearm that you shoot a lot. I know I have some spares of certain parts that I keep. I have never needed them yet, but they are cheap insurance against future problems. I keep a spare firing pin and even have a complete extra bolt as I kept my old conversion when I upgraded to the new stainless steel model with all the improvements. The old bolt works fine, it just doesn't do forward assist which is no big deal for me. .

I am planning on buying an extra bolt assembly and small parts just in case.  I just got to fit it into the budget along with the spare mags, ammo, stripped lowers/uppers, yada, yada, yada.....
