Got some sample magazines to shoot and got to take them for a range visit yesterday afternoon. I ran about 300 rounds of various popular .22 ammo through these and found them to perform really well. I used 36 and 40 grain ammo, "plated" and plain, from Federal Bulk pack Wally World stuff up to CCI Mini Mags. All fed and worked great in my rifle. These also work the BHOA. I like these things.

In the picture you see some of the components that make up this "system". Note that there is a "long" and a "short" outer section or "skin". There are two lengths of inner sections, long and short.  By using the basic parts you can put together a variety of magazine styles. To the far left you see the short body (skin) and the short inner "tube". This with a set of feed lips makes a ten round magazine. Then, move right to the next mag, two of the ten round inner sections put together to make a "short skin" 20 round magazine. The inner sections are made to lock securely to each other so you can stack sections together.

Moving to the next magazine we see the "standard" 25 rounder "long skin". Now, looking at the last mag on the right you see a 25 round magazine that has a ten round inner section added to make a 35 round magazine. (This is one of the test units I worked with yesterday).  I have heard a rumor that they have put two of the 25 round sections together and made a 50 rounder! Don't know if that one will ever actually be made. I think it would get pretty long!. (But a fun idea!)

Anyway, these mags performed great. They feed well, they activate the BHOA device and they are fun to play with. Of course they need to have the right springs in them to work right. CMMG says the springs for the 35 rounders are on the way so hopefully we will see these offered soon. I have to tell you that 35 is a lot of loading!  Now, if someone would just design some sort of "power loader" as these things get emptied as fast as I can pull the trigger!  And, when SpecOps (Dave in Florida) gets that slide fire stock working he will need some more of these to feed it.

just like an erector set of years past. Can't wait to try these with the Slide Fire
22 that I'm workin on...

Are these the same as Black Dog mags? They fit AR conversions?

They fit the Atchisson Conversions for AR's, which is standard for CMMG
and most other manufacturers. There are a number of other conversions
that have been made over the years but the Atchisson is the most widely
accepted.

I've been running four "short sticks" now for over a month. They are excellent,
however, I rarely load them to full capacity. In BR competiton I load six rounds,
one for sighter and five for record per target.

After about 500 to 600 rounds they finally were able to take the full round count
of ten cartridges.without a struggle. So for those who buy this magazine I say
don't get angry, start out loading five for a hundred or so, then build your way up.

I like this product so much I'm going to order more.

Ted,  I don't have any of the tens. (Here in Kentucky we just don't do ten round magazines. I think its a law or something. ) My 20 rounder test sample held 20 from the first time I loaded it, same for the longer one. But again, I have never tried a ten so I have to take your word on it.

The first 10 round mags I had, had problems loading 10 rds. The followers have been corrected from there. Also, make sure the base plate is correctly installed. There is a detent for the spring to fit into.

Dave, I took them apart and looked, the springs are in the right place.
I could load 10, just that it was difficult, but after time that became much
easier.

Glad to hear the newer offerings have solved that problem with the
follower you mentioned. Thank you for the tip.

Got my 5 modular mags and the new Gen 2 BHOA-
all mags loaded to 25 rounds no problems. The BHOA
did not work, but I had to adjust it all the way to the bolt,
then lock tight into place.
Next day at the range- the BHOA worked just fine. The
screw backed out while shooting- that's why the BHOA
did not work at first- not a design problem- just a loose
set screw!
