Got home from a month long trip to find a nice surprise waiting for me, my .22 dedicated upper had come home with a new hand guard installed.

I have a quad rail on one of my other rifles and have never been completely satisfied with it. I don't use all that rail space and it seemed a waste to me. Then I picked up a RRA Half Quad rail but it was just too "fat" for my hand. It went on the EE board and found a new home. Then CMMG comes up with this new slim "Revolution" hand guard. It looked good and I decided to give it a shot as I really wanted a free-floater on my rifle and this one seemed to have the right features for me.

When I first held the rifle with this guard I knew it was the right choice. It was slim and fit my style of hold on the rifle. I realize everyone is different but for me this one had the right grip size and location. I like the choice of rail mounts. They are the right size and in the right place for the things most commonly mounted on an AR (at least for me). The unit is very high quality in construction and fits up very nicely on the upper.  The upper rail matches up perfectly with the upper. The finish is nicely done and the parts are well made and fit together perfectly. The grip area has a rubber cover that feels good to the touch and makes a secure grip area. ( I never did get use to that all metal grip on the RRA)

I know everyone has their own style and favorites but for me this is the "One". I like that we have this option and am very pleased how this thing looks and feels. Now I have the slim grip I wanted and the right amount of  rail space for my "extras".  This one is a "keeper" for sure.

I agree.   I've got one rifle with a quad on it, and I call it the 'pine cone' because it is uncomfortable to hold it with your bare hand.   The new CMMG handguard is just right.   I think the rubber pads need to be a bit thicker but can live with them.  I waited a long time for the new handguard and glad it's on my rifle now.

I agree on the rubber hand guard. Nice thing is they screw on and maybe we can get CMMG to make some that are a bit thicker and we can upgrade them. Meanwhile, for me, this is the best unit available for now.

On the rubber panels we were going for the thinnest possible size.  We are cutting a mold for some intermediate panels. These will be out later this year.

Any information on how it interfaces with the barrel nut? (Is it proprietary?/Are special tools needed?)

A month on the road...well actually the water...traveling with my ship the LST-325. We have BIG guns on her....and some tracked vehicles too.  But good to sleep in my own bed again.

Now, time for the Machine Gun shoot!

I probably shouldn't give dates anymore since I tend to be off.  That said, we are cutting dies starting next week.  Can't wait.

Liked the video. Once more you guys have out done yourself. What a great concept on the various grip possibilities. How do you guys come up with all the great ideas?  Can't wait for these to come out so I can put some different grips on. I like parts that I can change and adapt.

I thought it would be great to have a minimalist compact upper for my SBR and at the time I got the bug CMMG announced the revolution handguard.  A slim, free float, piston gun that will fit in a PDW role makes me want to increase my debt to income ratio!

Maybe I muddied the waters a bit, I want the 7.2 or 3 (whatever it is) Adams piston upper with the revolution rail.  That would require a smaller rail to make room for the gas block.

Damn, that is *slick*

I have always hated how your choice is either 1. bulky rail covers so your hand doesn't burn 2. less bulky meat grinder rails or 3. aluminum tube to burn your hands on.

Just looking at this it solves several setup problems I have had on my carbine, and it is free float to boot!

Very nice design indeed, bravo sirs!

My boss has one of these and loves it...

Anyone handled one and can compare the the Revolution?

One thing I really liked about the Sampson was the ability to mount rails at 45 deg, like offset sights.

It also covers up that finger burning gas block.

After deciding to go for Dueck Defense RTS sights (45 deg) I'm reconsidering this hand guard over the Simmons.

I'd be replacing my CMMG Q4 Rails.   What would it entail to install the Revolution in place of the Q4 Rail (I do have a Q4 Rail wrench)?

If you go to the CMMG website and pick out an upper you want, notice that there is a "drop down" menu on "hand guards". The Revolution is one of the options you can pick as an upgrade. You can always call them and they will verify that. Hope that answers your question.

No my question was if these were being sold as an individual part, and not only an optional part on new rifles and uppers.

Also curious how they install and if any wrench is needed and available with them for installation.

I know I could call but the guys here on the forum are usually pretty helpful and informative, and I don't have to try to remember to make a phone call during business hours.

This may sound ludicrous, but I'm wondering if there would be any issue on a CMMG piston upper of mounting this hand gaurd canted by 45 degrees?

I'd have to see how it feels but it seems like mounting the hand guard this way with iron sights on the top rail makes for a cost effective secondary sighting system for closer targets in 3-Gun.

I can't tell if set at that angle, there is room for the piston.

Never mind.  After looking at one of Dave's SBR pictures I can tell that is not even close to happening :)
