Thanks to CMMG, both Daves (South and North), and all of the other posters that have chimed with their help on the evolution kits and all of the other wonderful CMMG products. After shooting the SS Evolution conversion kit with Forward Assist and BHOA on my 5.56 AR, I knew I had to go the dedicated route. Upon hearing of the wait for the 22 uppers from CMMG, I figured I would go the route of putting together my own upper (as well as a lower) since I was too impatient to wait. What I ended up with was a dissipator-like look to the upper, sporting rifle length handguards on the "shorty" 22LR barrel from CMMG. I think it looks sharp. Kudos to CMMG for building such great components that all work together and fit nicely, even with parts from another manufacturer. Everything went together with ease. Here's a photo of the build:
