Hey BrightF, Ive got a VEPR K in 7.62x39 that I want to rig a redneck light system too.  Its destined to be a bear gun, so I want some form of light thats attached to it so I can light up Yogi the bear before he eats me

Will the G2 Surefire stand up to the recoil of a VEPR?  For the mounting part, I was contemplating on trying a YHM Customizable rail that I could drill and mount with some screws.  Sound feasible?  I saw the price was almost 20 bucks for a 3 slot rail, is that shipped?

Also, what does one have in the way of mounting options outside a 1" scope ring?  Thanks.

Sorry for the delay in replying.  I've got a couple of options that might work for you on the rifle mount itself but does the forearm have fairly flat sides or more curveture to it?

On the light mount itself, we can use a quick detach mount such as the TDI-Arms mount or the new VLTOR mount if you want something easy to remove.

The forearm curves around the bottom part of the stock, then has straight sides that taper inwards.

You can see the line pretty clearly in this pic with the flat sides of the forearm.

Last question - Do you want to mount the light at 3, 6 or 9 o'clock?

I think the Vltor looks the best, they about the same price?

Very sorry, I keep getting side tracked and forget to come back to this.

Anyways, what I'd recommend is using a 2" picatinny rail plate and then use the VLTOR mount with it.  The 2" plate I have would be $14 for it and the new VLTOR mounts went up in cost so it'd be $33.00.  If you need to go cheaper I have some Weaver single point plates ($3) that might work but I need to see how well the VLTOR mount will fit it.

Sorry for the delay,

Calvin
