I realize this is more of a general quesiton, but being that we don't have an illumination forum this seemed to be the best place for this question: My understanding is that LED flashlights are VERY durable and have very long battery life along with putting out a good beam of light. Is there any reason NOT to use a LED flashlight as a weaponslight as opposed to a Xenon bulb light, assuming they both fit in the same package (and cost is not part of the equation)? Maybe I am asking the wrong question here, if so please put me on the rigth track! Thanks, Dawg |

Two threads pertaining to the use of LED's as weaponslights - www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=2&f=142&t=143421&page=1 www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=20&t=224102 At this time the major issue is range in my opinion, an LED's beam just seems to fade dramatically at longer ranges. There's also the issue of washout from significant ambient light which can be a negative for those in certain areas or for law enforcement officers who face varying conditions. The LED's are certainly the future and are capable (the KL5 & KL6 heads are the two best I've witnessed) of doing the job but for right now it's seems like there's a little more waiting to be done. |
