BCM was the only place I could find a bolt carrier group, everyone else was out of stock. Great service got it within three days! This was my first build so im still learning alot about the AR platform. In the package with the bcg is a small rubber "O" ring, what is that for?

Found a youtube video on it. Is it necessary and what are the benefits of having it in there?

Unless you have extraction issues, just leave it in the bag.

It is necessary if it is needed, but depending on what you build, what ammo you use, whether you use a can, and if you do full auto work, it isn't a yes or no question.

I politely disagree with Stick.  I think the O-Ring helps and I use it on all my rifles.  I was having extraction problems on an SBR and I added the BCM post, spring and O-Ring and the problem went away.  I think it is a good preventative.

I've never used the O ring in the three BCM BCGs I have/use. My BCM 11.5 ran fine without it yesterday.
