I recently acquired a 14.5" Colt SOCOM barrel.  It is a carbine length gas system, as I'm sure you are aware.  I'd like to make it a middy.  Have you guys done this with a SOCOM barrel yet?  Would you have any reservations about it?  What would the cost be?  PM me if you like.  I am very interested in getting this done!

it can be done, but you would have to contour it down to .625 to relocate the gas block at the MID position.

Is there a downside to that?  I chose the barrel to go a little shorter than 16" and because by all accounts it is a very accurate barrel.
