Can I send just a barrel and a muzzle brake for timing, pin and weld, or do I need to assemble the complete upper for that?

all we need is the barrel, and muzzle device.
You'll want to send the barrel nut and gas block as well, so you'll be able to assemble it :)

we get barrels and muzzle devices without gas blocks and barrels nuts at least once a month.

Wait why do I need to send the barrel nut for the pin weld job? Also the gas block will be already on it.

once the muzzle device is pinned in place, you will NOT be able to remove the gas block.  There are NO barrel nuts big enough to fit on over a gas block.

Excuse my ignorance, but cant I just slide the barrel nut over the back of it towards the gas block, put the barrel extension into the upper receiver, and then torque the barrel nut down? The only reason I ask is because I have not decided on a handguard yet...
