Hello ADCO,

Helping a friend with a budget build, and thus, he's assembling it himself. We don't have a torque wrench for installing the USGI barrel nut, but we've read from a lot of people that one isn't necessary. I think I read on here (somewhere?) that ADCO recommends hand tightening the barrel nut and then simply pushing the barrel nut to the next available notch for the gas tube, and voila, that's it. Would you be able to help us out with using this method?

1. What if the the barrel nut hand tightens so that half of a notch is exposed: do we go to the next notch after that, or do we just finish up aligning that notch? (because that's where hand tight gets us )

2. What kind of torque range does this put you in? I'm assuming it's over 30 ft-lbs, but we were curious. I'm also guessing that changes per upper and can range to multiple values?

3. Is there anything we should look out for while doing this?

Thanks very much, guys.

as long as you have at least 40lbs of torque the next notch will be fine, just make sure to grease the nut well.
