Hi guys,
We have corresponded about this Noveske upper before, a 12.5in stainless steel Crusader barrel with the Switchblock, and their 9.5in rail.

It is the heaviest 12.5in upper I have ever used, but it is EXTREMELY accurate.

At first I thought the culprit was the medium contour SS barrel alone, but I now believe that the rail is a big part of the  problem.
My research shows that the rail by itself is at least 13.5 oz, and the big ass steel barrel nut is 5 oz!!!
That's allmost 20 oz for rail & nut alone!!!!! The barrel and SB are 29oz.

I believe that we can make this upper lighter by switching to another rail, either a DD Omega X Rail 12FSP (13oz with the rail trimmed back 1.5in in front to accomodate the 12.5in barrel), or the DD Mk18 RIS II (13.5 oz , with a space routed thru the top half to allow access to the SB), like this...

Both of these rails are two-piece, which allows for an easier install of the Switchblock. Which of the required mods would be easiest for you to do?
I like the Mk18 rail more, but the goal here is weight savings.

Let me know before I change my mind and dump this upper.

Regards,

Jorge

Yes ladies and gentlemen, the top carbine is Bryan's, from AIM surplus.
The bottom is NickB's, from Magpul.

BTW Bryan, how does it handle?

That would explain why it appeared he had a man crush on whomever owned the gun in question.

OK, then three logistical considerations:

1) Do you have the SWS nut wrench to take the big nut off?
(SWS sells them for $30) Maybe a strap wrench will do.

2) Rail mods are not listed in the Services page. Where do I input the request?

3) How easy is it to get the DD Mk18 rail?
