In your professional opinion, what length gas system do you prefer with an 18" barrel, the rifle or the mid? I understand that Noveske has a new "intermediate" length which is between rifle and mid but I don't think anyone else offers that.

Rilfe is pretty good almost too short in sub freezing temps MID is a little too long the Vltor intermediate is probably the best, but for 98% of applications rifle is "good enough".
