Here's one of my Rit experiments. Bought a bottle of "Camel" to darken some Sand color floor plates. Now I know some colors are notorious for turning out nothing like the advertised color and this one is no exception. Final color was somewhere between a bright jungle green and Noveske Bazooka green. For comparison, upper is OD Green Cerakote and lower is uncoated Polymer 80 in OD Green: Full sun: Attached File Full shade: Attached File Attached File Process was very scientific and precise: ~2/3 water, ~1/3 vinegar, splash of dye in a beer can with the top cut off. I submerged the can in boiling water to heat it. Placed the parts in the solution for 4 minutes. I was hoping for some variation of tan/FDE but yeah, these are straight up green. If I were trying to color match a specific part I'd be more upset but the whole purpose of this project was just to give a little color to the floor plates to help identify 300blk magazines. So in the end it still accomplished said goal. |

No, you can't really dye black to any other color. General rule is can only go from lighter color to darker. For Magpul stuff, the popular base color to start with is "Sand" which is very light, almost white in appearance. Others have also used FDE as a base but it yields darker final color shades. Sand allows a lighter shade of the final color. |

I've searched everywhere and can't find it, but... Has anyone successfully dyed Magpul FDE into a pink or purple? If so, any tips or a formula would be appreciated. I'd prefer to do pink, but if it's not going to turn out well, some shade of purple is acceptable. I'm also hoping to keep it as bright as possible and not end up with plum (like found on AK's). I'm seeing a lot of folks doing neat things with sand, but I'm hoping to dye a whole set where sand just isn't an option (Magpul stock, mlok covers, K2 grip, M3 magazines). |

My wife likes Purple, but not pink. The lightest color Magpul stuff I could find was pink. I was able to get a pretty good looking purple by dying the pink. Go back a few posts, lots of pics. |

However, they don't make any of what I'm trying to buy in pink: SL stock, K2 grip, mlok panels, or pmags. If they did, I'd just buy pink and be done with it. So unfortunately, rit dye is my only option and FDE is about as light of a color as I'm going to find for those items. I'm thinking purple is more feasible than pink when starting with FDE, it'll probably end up purplish anyways. |

So, I tried the rit dyemore synthetic in royal purple and super pink, starting with Magpul FDE furniture. I went pretty heavy on the dye pour into the boiled water (in an aluminum pan) and left it for 5 minutes at which point it stopped absorbing more. *Royal purple ended up INCREDIBLY dark. Even darker than something like plum ak furniture. I ended up not using it because it was so dark. *Super pink ended up dying the FDE into a light purple shade. It's tough to describe, but online tyrian purple seems to be a somewhat accurate representation. If you shooting for a straight up purple when starting with FDE magpul, I'd probably mix 6 (pink) to 1 (purple) dye. I bet that'd get you close. You can also darken it up and get closer to purple if you dip pink first and then purple when you finish. I ended up leaving it as-is so that it's easy to duplicate in case I end up changing rail covers out at any point. |

Not that it helps with dye jobs but those of you looking for Wolf Grey, Montana cans 94 “Wolf grey” is a dead nuts match to BCM wolf grey. You have to use plastic primer though. Bought an FDE SOPMOD and a trigger guard to test and see if I can mix up some dye soon to match. |

Thank you guys for posting formulas! Gotten my hands on a few Strike 80 frames "4 FDE" always wanted a gray frame, but they stopped making these. Now I have 2 gray frames! Came out awesome! Thinking of dying one more FDE frame to get OD green. Then ill have all the color line from Strike lol. 2 left strike frames were dyed, 2 right strike frame were original FDE. Dont mind my resin printed dummy slide XD |

I have for some reason all of a sudden out of know where decided I must have something Zombie green. So since I'm a bit late (like 10 years late) and no one makes Zombie green furniture anymore here I am searching for the rit dye Zombie green formula. Your formula says; "Zombie Green is 2 tablespoons and 2 teaspoons Lemon Yellow, 2 teaspoons Aquamarine." Using that formula how did they turn out? In your pictures they look a bit of tennis ball yellow but it appears the camera flash may have altered the color in the picture. I saw in another post where someone used a Rit Fye formula for "Slime Green" which was a 50/50 mixture of neon green (half liquid bottle) and aquamarine (half liquid bottle) and it started to give a tiffany blue color so half of the rit dye water was dumped and the remaining half bottle of Neon green was added. His stuff from the picture turned out to be nice bright lime green. Just trying to get this Zombie green figured out before I buy magpul furniture and start playing around with it. |

This is very close to how it looks to my eyes:  That's under florescent lights in my workshop. Under incandescent lights in the bedroom, with a zombie green Ka Bar, they look yellow on camera.  It's not a good match for the Ka Bar under any light.  The color we were going for is the tips from the Hornady ZMAX.  Which brings it back to, "what color are you trying to match?" Zombie green is a spectrum. |

I just dyed an SGA buttock. Thank you posters for the tips! I missed a part when I did the stock and had to add after the water cooled some (130ish ) and it wouldn't really take. Warmed it to 180ish and that did the trick and the part went to black (nothing special). This was a test for doing my daughter's AR 15. Again thanks! |

I’ve never messed with dyeing furniture, but there are two things I’d like to do: 1) I have a LWRCI light tan stock I’d like to make a little darker, not much - something more like Magpul’s current FDE. Is a weak solution of the dark brown a practical way of doing it? LWRCI did theirs stupid light. 2) Is there a path to LaRue Urban Dark Earth? They never made any MLOK covers in it, and I’d prefer not painting any. Any suggestions for these two? |
