M&P mag walls are a lot thinner than a Glock mag. I don't think they can make a mag strong enough to meet their standards of strength and still fit in the pistol.

I think this is the most logical answer. The Glock was easy because the clearance was already built in for their polymer magazine. With the design of the M&P line using a metal magazine I don't think they could get the mags to fit in the mag well if they were made of polymer.

Base plates - now that would be something good to have!
