It's more orange than red IMO, but yes, they exist.

I would like to see it in better light. It does look rather orange to me though.

Wow, that's an *OLD* receiver or did you go retro? No gate arount the mag release and the pivot pin isn't captured!

It almost looks doctored.  There is a hint of a sear pin hole but it's off.

Looks like an orange one, maybe just a different lot color as shown below:

It's a 1992 or there abouts Sporter Match HBAR that I bought while in Hawaii, the local store pulled the 20 inch barrel off of it and put a 16inch Bushmaster barrel on it during

the ban  (they wanted an absolutely ridiculous price for the original barrel so I was stuck with the 16 inch. One of these days I will buy a replacement 20 inch barrel for it and

return it to a proper Match rifle.

I'm talking about the lower.

There's no mag release gate and no pivot pin detent, it's more of a screw. I've seen them on ancient a1 lowers. It also looks like you've got a sear pin there too.

Is that a Vietnam era lower?

I know you were....(I was expanding on the rifle any my history with it trying to have a conversation   <-----Not meant to come off as sarcastic)  The lower has a sear block that is what you see and as I said in my last post it is a 92 or so Match Target Sporter Match HBAR Lower.  Large screw pin sear block, etc....

Cool!

We have receivers exactly, well that look exactly like that, turn up in our military inventory and they're ancient A1 rifles that had an A2 upper and three round burst trigger pack installed.

I had to laser engrave the entirety of the base's M16's right sides so they had selector markings. Some of them, when we were taking the upper receivers off, we found when we'd pop the pivot and takedown pins and the pivot pin would come shooting out! Others were the next generation where they had the pivot pin detent but no gate around the mag release.

I'm sad to say that chances are they cut them all up. Lowers because they were select fire and they even cut up uppers that had never been fired. They even cut up the carriers and flattened the bolts with hammers. Working for the Government has shown me a level of waste that would break your heart to know. It's no wonder we're in the dire straits we're in.

The Retro forum might be quite interested in hearing about these experiences.

The non-captive pivot pin lowers were Colt model R601 and R602s, while "partial fence" lowers began with the 603 and 604 before the final design.

The Colt "Sporter" slabside lowers were a civilian adaptation, and "big hole" with screw pivot pins, rather than the ball detent pivot pins of the 601 and 602.

Do you happen to know offhand what the years they were making the R601 and R602's?

If I can, I'll ask the CATM E8 if I can take a look at the archaic guns if they're still in one piece and get a pic or two.
