Cut down versions, stippling, cores, etc., lets see what you've done.

I typically use only a fraction of any VFG, so I took my RVG and MVG out to the garage for a little cosmetic surgery.  A couple seconds of love on the chop saw, and they had a new life.  I know I'm not the only persons to have done this, and I know there are loads of other ways that guys have customized their Magpul RVG/ MVG/ AFGs.  I think the next thing I want to do is starting playing around with a wood burning tool and slap some new texture on it, just to see how I like it.

Lets see what you've got.

Guys have commented on using an A2 grip plug, but I have not tried it myself.

The plug from a Tapco VFG fits nice and tight, and it looks like it should be there.

Here is an AFG I fitted to some MOE handguards. If you look closely, it fits closer to the handguard because the rail itself was filed lower to tighten everything up. Because of that I had to cut out the rail area in the front of the AFG to fit around the hand-stop on the MOE HGs. Once I got it fitted the way I wanted, I stippled the grip surface and ground off the bumps on the wings. I also had to remove a little material from the wings themselves to allow a tighter fit.

Here's my stippled AFG1 on my SR15.  I have tiny little Asian hands (I know what you're thinking fools! ) so I left the little notch in the AFG instead of replacing it with the smooth one.  Then I stippled the area in which I put my hand/fingers including in front of the AFG.  How I run it is pinky, ring, and middle on the first stippled part, pointer in front of the AFG, and thumb riding the top of the rail.  Works for me.  Might try another one out without the notch or buy a AFG2 and play around with it.  I have another ideal for the AFG as well, but it's a secret for now.

Cut down the wings to fit on my LT rail, and flattened the front and back ends so XTM panels would fit flush...

About an hour, not too bad... I went more aggressive on top, and pretty light on the bottom, I may end up going back and making the bottom more aggressive.

Really?

The lighter area looked like it would be more comfortable, while still adding some traction. Not true?

Also, did you just use a normal soldering iron tip?

It's pretty comfy, I'll have to see if it's tacky enough in the rail, sweaty hands etc...  yes on the small iron tip.

I'm sure I'm breaking some sort of law posting these cell phone pics in a Stickman thread, but here goes...

I actually run my index finger in front of the AFG1, so I end up w/a large unused portion of the tail of my AFG1.  Hence, my AFG1 "stubby" mod...

I haven't had any time to work it over w/the wood burner, but it'll get stippled here soon.  There's a perfect internal vertical 'spine' that I used as my back.

I run the same setup as your AFG with it stippled. It works good and saves rail space on the bottom by cutting the back off.

Dang, someone beat me to it!  A little different than the way I was going to do it, but same idea.  +1 to you sir!

I think I'll do this to my AFG1 once I get an AFG2 and I need to buy a MOE RVG and try what Stick did.  I want to experiment with a bunch of different options.  Here's more to the money pit!!!

This is what I did. I like having a VFG but also like the forward grip and using the AFG. So I went with what I felt would be the best of both worlds. I got the idea from someone else who did something similar, but I spent a good deal of time on the dremel and fit them together nicely.  Ohh and that is my own home made redi-mod... took about 7 cutting wheels and a pointed grinding bit to touch up the corners. Then I sprayed it with kyrlon grill paint.

Just cut down to fit the contour, drill two holes in the AFG and use MOE screws and backers. Works much better and allows me to access the dual pressure pad at 12 o'clock
